I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to Wingstop for lunch.

At the college bookstore I used to work for, one of the cafe workers got shot in the face. Some psycho stalker came in during the lunch rush and just blew the poor girl away. This was a few weeks after I'd left so I wasn't on the scene, but I believe management closed the cafe down... for a day, at the cops' request.

I got shot in the arm at work one time, and lost a tooth because a junkie attacked me when I caught her shooting up in the bathroom. Fuck the service industry.

On a related note, I just found out the guy's trial ended! He was found not guilty, for reason of insanity, and will now spend the rest of his life in a mental hospital a few blocks up the road from the cafe.

Some time back, there was a guy who made a big splash cold calling fast food franchises and the like and pretending to be the police. He would tell the manager that one of their employees was a criminal. He actually got a manager to strip search an employee on site, amongst other things. I'm too lazy to search for the stories, but look around. It wasn't more than a few years ago.

Fun fact about the Milgram experiment. It's been done in just about every country on earth, with very similar results. Only one country showed a marked variation from the norm, with the subject rejecting the experimenter and walking out of the room. That would be Germany. I'm sure you can guess why.

I remember once I had a cold and didn't want to spread it to other people since I worked at the concession stand at a movie theatre. Granted, I wasn't knocked off of my feet bad but I still generally felt like crap and told my manager so.

His response?

I dunno, maybe I'm just a little sissy-girl, but I just don't think it's a good idea to let a sick person handle what people are going to put in their mouths.

When I worked at a movie theatre I'd regularly cover for a girl who'd start to feel dizzy during rushes and need to sit down. Since it was movie theatre wages we weren't exactly able to go to the hospital on a whim. Turns out she had mono.

I was reading an editorial about Facebook on N+1 earlier today and near the beginning the author talks about living in Germany at the time it first got big, and her German friends' reaction to it compared to her American friends:

OZ - I find that very interesting, as *my* Facebook name is pseudonym, I never use chat anything, and my only picture, the face of some grimacing dude from a German porn.

I'm not sure I'd like to see an entire culture of me.

The Stasi implemented a version of facebook years before Zuckerberg. It didn't work out too well for the East Germans. It probably won't work out too well for us, either.
