Here I make a "Special sauce" joke, despite no such sauce being on the menu (which is a joke in itself).

5 Subway Employee Stories That Will Completely Shock You!

Gmork - 2014-07-17

Try this one weird trick for puking at work!

infinite zest - 2014-07-17

I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to Wingstop for lunch.

Old_Zircon - 2014-07-17

Back in college a god friend of mine went to one of the Dunkin Donuts in downtown Boston a little after lunchtime. Everyone there seemed visibly shaken up so she asked her cashier if everything was OK. Turns out 45 minutes earlier one of the other cashiers (or the assistant manager, I forget which) had literally died of cardiac arrest behind the counter less than an hour before. The rest of the people there weren't even given a break.

I'm sure stuff like the story in the video happens all the time.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-17

At the college bookstore I used to work for, one of the cafe workers got shot in the face. Some psycho stalker came in during the lunch rush and just blew the poor girl away. This was a few weeks after I'd left so I wasn't on the scene, but I believe management closed the cafe down... for a day, at the cops' request.

infinite zest - 2014-07-17

I got shot in the arm at work one time, and lost a tooth because a junkie attacked me when I caught her shooting up in the bathroom. Fuck the service industry.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-17

On a related note, I just found out the guy's trial ended! He was found not guilty, for reason of insanity, and will now spend the rest of his life in a mental hospital a few blocks up the road from the cafe.

"We take this very seriously" is quickly becoming one of the phrases that makes _me_ violently ill.

What is wrong with people that they act like this? I've been in-between bosses and subordinates in previous jobs and every time situations where I was basically being asked by my superiors to treat y subordinates like shit, I just didn't do it and took the heat myself. I don't think I could have done otherwise if I wanted to. Are there really so many psychopaths?

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-07-17

You ever heard of a fellow named Stanley Milgram? Google that shit, Hook.

Some time back, there was a guy who made a big splash cold calling fast food franchises and the like and pretending to be the police. He would tell the manager that one of their employees was a criminal. He actually got a manager to strip search an employee on site, amongst other things. I'm too lazy to search for the stories, but look around. It wasn't more than a few years ago.

Yup, I thought that might be here. Thanks, homer.

Fun fact about the Milgram experiment. It's been done in just about every country on earth, with very similar results. Only one country showed a marked variation from the norm, with the subject rejecting the experimenter and walking out of the room. That would be Germany. I'm sure you can guess why.

Hooker - 2014-07-17

So what you're saying is that every nationality should try to kill the jews.

il fiore bel - 2014-07-17

"Are there really so many psychopaths?"

Wait, you've worked in fast food and you have to ask?

I remember once I had a cold and didn't want to spread it to other people since I worked at the concession stand at a movie theatre. Granted, I wasn't knocked off of my feet bad but I still generally felt like crap and told my manager so.

His response?

"Well, it's not like you're going to DIE or anything!"

I dunno, maybe I'm just a little sissy-girl, but I just don't think it's a good idea to let a sick person handle what people are going to put in their mouths.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-07-17

After WWII, German schools required students to study the Reich and understand how the whole country was drawn into that disaster. It's remarkable to me that, from the experimental evidence, it's the only country in the world that teaches it's citizens to question authority.

You might think the Israelis would as well, but as you can see, they now see the holocaust as a blueprint rather than a cautionary tale. Oh well. It never ends well, Ben. Trust me.

(busts out 6 string)
I'm closer to the golden dawn,
immersed in Crowleys uniform, of imagery.
I'm living in a silent film,
protraying Himmlers sacred realm,
of dream reality.
I'm frighted by the total goal,
drawn to the ragged hole.
And I ain't got the power, anymore.
No, I ain't got the power, anymore.

infinite zest - 2014-07-17

When I worked at a movie theatre I'd regularly cover for a girl who'd start to feel dizzy during rushes and need to sit down. Since it was movie theatre wages we weren't exactly able to go to the hospital on a whim. Turns out she had mono.

"Oscar Wildcat

I was reading an editorial about Facebook on N+1 earlier today and near the beginning the author talks about living in Germany at the time it first got big, and her German friends' reaction to it compared to her American friends:

"No one had fun with it. Far from putting on a show of surfaces, the Germans hid themselves, their Facebook names invariably pseudonymous, only sneaking out occasionally under cover of darkness (their chat-profile set to “invisible”), to gawk surreptitiously at the sacrificial few who had offered themselves up for exposure. "

She sees "not having fun" and "paranoia." I see a culture that knows better.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-17

OZ - I find that very interesting, as *my* Facebook name is pseudonym, I never use chat anything, and my only picture, the face of some grimacing dude from a German porn.

I'm not sure I'd like to see an entire culture of me.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-07-17

The Stasi implemented a version of facebook years before Zuckerberg. It didn't work out too well for the East Germans. It probably won't work out too well for us, either.

ShiftlessRastus - 2014-07-17

Duhaaaahhhhaaaii...I HEARD that!

Scrimmjob - 2014-07-17

This all makes perfect sense because Subway is very gross.

BHWW - 2014-07-17

To be fair, she was probably the cleanest employee there.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-07-17

I had one supervisor who came to work no matter how sick he was and expected everyone else to do the same. Of course, we often caught the bugs from him.

I had a supervisor who never seemed to get sick and was convinced everyone who said they were sick was just faking because they were lazy and wanted to get out of work. She never directly threatened to fire anyone for laying out or leaving sick, but always made it clear we could be quickly and easily replaced.

I've had a few supervisors who felt it was their job to squeeze every ounce of productivity out of their underlings even if they were sick. I did hear these people resort to threats to bully people into staying at work when they really should have gone home.

Sadly, this is the sort of person management positions attract because they "get results".
