it takes a crowdsourced village to raise a post-singularity transhuman milleniababy

fluffy - 2014-05-28

It raised its million goal.

In 11 hours.

Holy shit.

BiggerJ - 2014-05-28

God, I know.

It took THAT FUCKING LONG?

fluffy - 2014-05-28

I'm just looking forward to this becoming inevitably the most-funded Kickstarter project for a while, because finally something that actually benefits society instead of bullshit webcomics or crappy video game consoles or wristwatches FOR YOUR WRIST or whatever.

Imagine if it keeps this much momentum the whole way through. Obviously it won't (most projects taper off after the first few days and then have a steady climb and then another big surge at the end) but this still has a lot of potential to get a lot of money that will directly go to making a lot of kids happier and better-educated.

Thanks to viewers like us.

BiggerJ - 2014-05-28

I'll take your word for it.

NO I WON'T

BiggerJ - 2014-05-28

It already came back in 2012, but only for tablets. If you think that's bullshit, so does LeVar. This campaign is for putting it on the web in both home and classroom editions, the latter of which will be given to a ton of classrooms for free.

memedumpster - 2014-05-29

Oh thank god.

Cube - 2014-05-29

One would think they could handle seeing a black person better in a school.

Cube - 2014-05-29

Even the guy at 0:56 is trying to say "black person!"

EvilHomer - 2014-05-29

I get that the faculty recognizes him, but how is it that the children all know who he is? Reading Rainbow is not getting broadcast to enough kids, they are being deprived of Reading Rainbow, that is the whole point of this Kickstarter.

The little girl with the sandwich is like, "Wow, is that who I think it is?" NO, it is not! You don't know who it is, because he is not on TV anymore!!!

God, I'm so mad about that I almost don't care that the bearded hipster guy gave Levar a Vulcan salute, even though Geordi's not a Vulcan.

chumbucket - 2014-05-29

Reading Rainbow Classics found its way to Netflix and my kids love it. I so wanted to fool them into thinking he was blind. That's the kind of parent I am.

Scrimmjob - 2014-05-29

Awesome, now we need a kickstarter to bring back Picture Pages.

Old_Zircon - 2014-05-29

Square One.

TeenerTot - 2014-05-29

Hey guys, you should go watch the video on the Kickstarter updates page.
It'll make you smile. Unless you're a cynical joyless old fart who....Oh. I forgot who I was talking to here.

Nah, just kidding. You guys are great.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2014-05-29

Pledge ,000 or more

The ULTIMATE STAR TREK "GEORDI'S VISOR" Package // You and a friend will be LeVar's personal guests for a PRIVATE DINNER in Los Angeles, and you will get to wear the ONE-AND-ONLY ORIGINAL VISOR that LeVar wore in ST:TNG. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! // Please note: travel & accommodations are NOT included. (Date TBD. More details under REWARDS.)

Limited (1 of 1 remaining)

I guess people are afraid of getting cooties from his visor.

EvilHomer - 2014-05-29

Get to wear or get to keep?

Old_Zircon - 2014-05-29

k would be REALLY low for a prop of that stature.

EvilHomer - 2014-05-29

Well, that's why I'm interested. For keepsies, I'd seriously consider dropping k on this Kickstarter. But just to wear it? Once? HA not likely!

That's some straight up Ferengi shit right there.

Old_Zircon - 2014-05-29

I came in here prepared to be all cynical about shitty reboots, and then I saw Levar Burton.

Callamon - 2014-05-29

I love how brent spiner has a sense of humor about himself. He has also done some good post st scifi acting on shows like warehouse 13

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-05-30

Yeah, I really like the guy. Fresh Hell wasn't very good, but it wasn't terrible either. I hope he does more stuff.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-05-29

His goal on the Kickstarter was million. It's up to .2 million now, and it still has 33 days left.

fluffy - 2014-05-30

Yes. This is very quickly on track to become the most-funded Kickstarter ever, by a very very wide margin. This gives me hope for humanity.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-05-30

,000,000 and counting. 32 days to go. Man.
