I'm pretty sure it was a case of "why won't a beautiful woman come over to me while I'm filming people from my car and ask to be my girlfriend? It's not fair that I'm expected to do things like ask a girl out and go on dates and connect to someone on even a perfunctory level in order for someone to be physically intimate with me."

The thing that really gets to me is my younger nephew used to have this same attitude. He was badly neglected in the first two years of his life by my sorry-ass sister and his sorry-ass father. They would leave him unattended for most of the day while they got high. When my parents & I finally took him in, he was just about ruined.

He's better now, but it's taken us five years of patience and constant monitoring to get through to him. He now understands that he is not the only person in the world who matters. He also understands he doesn't just get things because he wants them. More importantly, he's no longer filled with rage and anger against people who deny him things he wants. Sometimes, he still gets deeply upset when he's told he can't do or have something, but such incidents are becoming few and far-between. Again, it has taken us years of constant work to get him to this stage.

I'm wondering if this Rodger guy was neglected as a kid? Maybe he was taken care of materially and physically, but ignored emotionally? I'm not trying to make excuses for his actions or lay blame elsewhere or evoke sympathy for him. I'm just trying to understand how someone could become so broken.

This can be learned later in life, but as you might say Binro it's rough sledding for all involved.
