At least those muppets have jobs. We can't all operate general stores, Jim.

EvilHomer - 2014-04-23

Yeah, Jim's decadent urban lifestyle would be impossible without hardworking blue collar lumberjacks. I understand the romantic attachment of the bourgeois to a pristine natural world which is as alien to most of us today as the city was to our ancestors, but give it a rest, hippie!

This might have worked better if it were being sung by a Birkenstock-wearing media executive, instead of a "dirty poor", and you replaced the fast food joint with an IKEA and a Muppet Movie billboard.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-04-23

Fuck with Mother Nature, and you'll likely be sorry.

Down the road from me, a neighbor got it into his head to take out all the blackberry bushes from a field adjacent to the road. He filled in with dirt, and proceeded to park cars on it. This spring, when the rains came, a nice lake developed in the road. It filled to capacity, then overflowed the road and ran down my neighbors driveway. Great flooding in his garage ensued. This happens now everytime there are heavy rains, a rather common occurence here.

For you see, where you find great clumps of caneberries, there you will find water at least, and likely an underground stream or wetland. Pave that over, and you get Wildcat Lake come the rainy season.

Ironically, our opinions on the subject are discounted because we're the "city slickers" and what could we know about the subject. That is OK by me, so long as the damage is limited to their properties.

Actually, Evilhomer, you are incorrect on your assessment of the relations of culture and nature. Let me refute you point by point.
Your first point is that the urban, upperclass lifestyle depends upon, and is more ecologically destructive than the very rural, working class people that it despises for despoiling the environment. I have three things to say to this;
First: haha had you going there for a second didn't I?
Second: do even you know when you're trolling anymore?
Third: ponies are dumb. This is proven by science and logic. Mother nature abhors a pony. Also Sailor Moon and stuff is gay.

memedumpster - 2014-04-23

Still Life With Woodpecker taught me that blackberries are evil and out to destroy humanity. Oscar's story merely reinforces this belief.

EvilHomer - 2014-04-23

Oh. I was rather hoping you *would* refute me. :(

And what's wrong with Sailor Scouts being gay? Neptune and Uranus are just as good as any of the straight senshi!

EvilHomer - 2014-04-23

Ponies are pretty dumb though, at least in real life. They aren't the dumbest animals, but they are a long way from people and dolphins.

Mother_Puncher - 2014-04-23

Was EvilHomer always trolling? Man you think you know a guy on a website where people rarely give out any personal information and just watch bad videos all day...

sasazuka - 2014-04-27

There were actually blue collar Muppets who appeared on the main SESAME STREET plot segments, construction workers Biff and Sully.

Oh hey, they have a Bad Food! I miss those! I used to go to the one in Canoga Park for lunch all the time, but they closed it years ago.

Cena_mark - 2014-04-23

We take you now to a garage in Canoga Park

Shoebox Joe - 2014-04-23

Damn, bursting our peace bubbles well before today.

This one is as "Earth Day" as I wanted to submit.

I loved this one as a little kid, but I'm afraid I might have been thinking the point was the opposite of the one it's obviously trying to make. I think, at the time, I thought, "Alright, they're taking the boring countryside and building a big awesome new city!" Which happens in China all the time (whether or not anyone actually lives in the brand new cities), but doesn't exactly happen that way in North America. We just get boring urban sprawl, existing cities expanding their suburban outskirts.

These days, I'd probably rather live in the "country" anyway, and would if I had the means. Although, by "country", I mean "rural with some suburban amenities", which probably means I'd be part of the problem illustrated in this sketch.

Incidentally, notice some of the other social commentary on poverty and crime in cities? The woman rummaging through the garbage, taking some, and then, a few seconds later, being chased by the green guy in the leather jacket (who was seen associating with the purple guy in a similar leather jacket (a gang?). All that definitely went right over my head as a kid.

There are a lot of background Muppets in this one. Must have been much more complicated to shoot than the average Sesame Street sketch with only two or three Muppets (like you'd need a deeper set & coordinate all the Muppets movements).

In case anyone sees the title of the Youtube video and is wondering why I changed "Oh" to "Ah", I was going by the title given on the Muppet Wikia page: http://goo.gl/CnTjhY

Which reminds me very much of how Kosuke Fujishima's AA! MEGAMI-SAMA gets transliterated into English alternately as "Oh My Goddess!" (manga & original OVA series) and "Ah, My Goddess!" (movie and TV anime series).

If you check that Wikia link, you'll notice that the song was written by one David Axlerod. It's not the Democratic Party consultant and pundit, nor is it the musician or poet, but this screenwriter David Axlerod gets a small entry on the Wikipedia David Axlerod disambiguation page: http://goo.gl/w6LQ4o

Scholarly work, here.

Meerkat - 2014-04-23

That reminds me, I was going to design a game called "Sesame Street Fighter".
