You know what he needs? A Powerpoint presentation.

Nightmare 3 is my favorite, mostly for the black kid who calls freddy a "burnt faced pussy"

baleen - 2014-04-14

The heroin needle holes that were suckling for Freddy's needle fingers freaked me the fuck out when I was a kid.

infinite zest - 2014-04-14

This was great. New Nightmare was still my favorite, but that's probably because of my age. Movies like Dream Warriors and Maximum Overdrive still scared the shit out of me.. for example I'd run away from steam rollers in my neighborhood, thinking they'd start coming after me..

Anyway I didn't know that they made Freddy into such a charismatic villain-hero so early on. I really can't think of one other character who's been so evil and hilariously lovable. Maybe the Gremlins, but not Darth Vader or Boba Fett, maybe Krang or Gargamel, but they don't really count since they didn't.. I don't know.. STAB SOMEBODY AND MAKE THEM DIE FROM A HEROIN OVERDOSE

It's hard to market a character who was supposedly a serial child killer as a lovable antagonist, but somehow they pulled it off.

Same here. The needle scene freaked me out as a little kid. So did the scene where the guy has his tendons ripped out of his arms/legs and is walked around like a puppet.

EvilHomer - 2014-04-14

Chucky was pretty lovable, as was Leprechaun, Carnosaur, the Gremlins, and Bub the Zombie. Freddy was funny, but I would not call him "lovable".

Old_Zircon - 2014-04-14

It and #1 are both great but these days I'm the sort of choad who likes #2 best.

My favorite part of 3 is the Dokken video.

Scrimmjob - 2014-04-14

Really? part 2? I thought that was the weakest of the first 4. It has been at least a decade since I've watched any of them, maybe the time has come to bust out the VCR.

infinite zest - 2014-04-14

Carnosaur's a lovable movie and maybe my favorite Corman film, but there's nothing lovable about Carnosaur!

Do they make promo videos like these anymore? I used to work at a video store and we had tons of VHS release promos sitting around in the basement. Sadly most of them (probably this one too) were destroyed in a flood.

For the most part I remember something like Magnolia Pictures doing a mega DVD promo for all their upcoming films and not something as specific as one movie.. most of our promo kits for big movies were like stress balls or some other shit nobody wanted.

sosage - 2014-04-14

You know, now that I think about it, I never actually sat through 2. I was under the impression it is just, "Freddy crashes a pool party".

EvilHomer - 2014-04-14

Oh come on, zest. How can you say such a thing about that cute widdle face?

Who's a pwetty Cahnosohw? YOU ARE. YES. YOU ARE.

Old_Zircon - 2014-04-14

2 is atrocious but so amazing.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-04-14

Terrifying!

Sexy Duck Cop - 2014-04-14

Freddy really CUTS a mean promo! He really SLASHED the competition at the box office! He also implicitly RAPED children while he was alive!

infinite zest - 2014-04-14

Yeah. It's a weird dichotomy. I can't remember if I had seen the Treehouse of Horror Simpsons episode where Groundskeeper Willie gets thrown in the furnace by mistake or Dream Warriors first, but as far as I knew, Freddy got kind of fucked over, and his revenge tactics were fairly typical of a horror villain. THen someone told me his whole backstory and I was like "what the fuck?"

Darth Vader killed his brother, and Jason.. he got a pretty bad deal so he's excusable. We watch horror films for the same reason, but it's kind of fucked up to be rooting for someone who was actually accused of rape and was unapologetic about it after he got out of jail.

EvilHomer - 2014-04-14

Yeah, I definitely saw NoES before that Treehouse of Horrors, but I didn't really know his full backstory. I knew it had something to do with Stranger Danger, but The Simpsons made a lot more of an impression on me than the films, at least back in grade school.

I never really sympathized with Freddy, though. He was a total asshole, funny, but an irredeemable asshole. Hence why I say it's not lovable. Jason was a really sympathetic character; I totally got why he flipped shit, and while righteous vengeance doesn't excuse the fact that most of the campers he killed were far less douchey than the counselors responsible for his drowning, I could still root for him on roughly half his kills. Freddy, that was a totally different story.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-04-20

The recent Rick and Morty episode that spoofed Freddy Krueger by going into his own nightmare of being made fun of in villain class was pretty hilarious as well.

This is the 80sest thing I've seen since the Miami Vice clip I saw right before this.
