Those are crows, not ravens, but thanks for showing me something I have never seen before.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-06

They look like eagles to me.

Cena_mark - 2014-03-06

Those are ravens trust me. You don't spend two years in Alaska and not be able to tell the difference.

Anaxagoras - 2014-03-06

Ravens *are* crows.

More specifically, crows is a term that's generally used for all birds of the genus corvus. There is no species of bird with the name "crow". There are, however, several different species of corvus with the word "raven" in their name.

There isn't any species or genus that's just called "raven"; it's a non-specific & ambiguous label.

Oh, and thanks for sharing the cool video, Cena.

Anaxagoras - 2014-03-06

Oh wait... I just checked wikipedia, and it looks like there are several species that have "crow" in their name. That'll teach me to school somebody based on my faulty memory.

Still, "crow" is also the label often used for the genus corvus, which contains both crows and ravens.

Hooray for non-scientific animal nomenclatures!

Very cool footage, Cena - thanks for sharing. I had no idea Porcupines would do this either. It sounds like you were near the coast here, is that accurate?

They're all cute until you learn about their carnivorous side. Also they chew the bark off poor trees.
Yeah. It was south central Alaska.

Five stars despite how this was all scripted.
