I can confirm that there is at least one Jizanthapus in every class, not only in the US, but the whole world. In Korea, there was always one, which compared to the straight-laced homogeneity of the rest of the students, I almost admired for the rebelliousness of it. But not really because I was the one who had to deal with that. I worked middle school there.

In Thailand, it was exactly the opposite. Almost every kid was a Jizanthapus and each class only had one or two good kids, and even those kids acted like uptown little shits, just not in a running around screaming sort of way. And I taught high school there. Yes, I had multiple 17-year old students running around screaming like fucking kindergartners, in multiple schools, like it was part of the national character. I'll never return to Thailand.

We'll see now that I'm off to China, though I'll be teaching adults mostly, so I don't foresee behavior being a problem.

Finally, I was a Jizanthatpus, I'm fairly sure. Being a bi-polar kid, I went from zero to fighting mad at a hatdrop, and I didn't get diagnosed until I was 20. I wasn't spoiled, either, my folks never argued with the schools punishments and always doubled down when I got home, with long groundings and spankings before they started to fall out of favor as a punishment in the 80s. Most Jizanthapus' (Jizanthapi?) could track their problems to shitty parents but it's not always over-indulgence. It's often just not being able to figure out what is wrong with the kid.

That said, I'm just a teacher. I've had a few that I wouldn't cry if I heard wandered into traffic.

Ever talked to the parents? Not that I think that will get you anywhere or that it is even a good idea but I guess someone has to stand up for the little-one.

They insist he's "really a good boy" and that he "can't help it when he acts that way."

As I said, my younger nephew suffers from ADHD and he has trouble controlling many of his impulses, but we NEVER let him just continue to get away with it and with a lot of hard work and patience, we've been able to help him develop coping mechanisms for the feelings that make him misbehave. He's not perfect, but he does try and usually succeeds in behaving. The one thing we've really stressed is that you never EVER hurt anyone, no matter how upset you get.

That other little asshole, though, all his parents do is take him to a quiet corner and console him & shower affection on him until he decides to stop acting like a shit, at least for a little while. Of course he's going to misbehave, you fucking morons.

I'm related to an early childhood teacher, and one big problem with ADHD/Autistic kids when talking to their parents is convincing them their kid is acting like a shit because they're a kid, not because they've got mental issues. Even low-functioning children will take advantage if they see they've got a "get out of jail free" card.

I've seen that with one of the roommate's nephews, who is held to zero standards because he's got some developmental issues. And yet he responds quickly enough when I say "your aunt asked you to be patient, if you can't be patient you don't get any ice cream at all". (Then of course he gets his ice cream after he behaves, and we compliment him on his manners because that's how you train children and other apes.)

My nephew gets anxious and even scared if he's not being paid attention to. He's never violent, he just does anything he can to get everyone in the room to notice him. He's not the sort of kid who can sit alone in his room and read a comic. If he's in a room alone, he will eventually break down in tears. I think that has more to do with the fact he was raised by my idiot sister and his asshole of a father for the first two years of his life. They both have substance abuse issues and I'm sure they kept him locked in his room while they got high and laid around on the couch all day.

He also has a deep-rooted need to test authority. If I tell him not to go in the kitchen because I just mopped, he will go immediately to the threshold and put his toes right outside the edge of the wet floor. The big problem with that is if I get on to him, he still enjoys the attention, so it's best to just ignore it. The bigger problem is he will often smile or laugh when he's being scolded. We know he can't help it, but I can understand how other adults would take a dim view of such behavior.

We've been working with him and as he's gotten older he has an easier time understanding why he does things, why other might not like or understand those things and why he needs to work hard on controlling himself. He's been doing really well, but if he's tired or really stressed, all his self-control goes right out the window.

Wikipedia shows, in his discography, a 2011 album titled "Live at the Beacon Theater," which apparently is only available for download from his website (and bits and pieces in Youtube, I guess). The track listing contains a ten minute long bit titled "I Hate This One Kid." Judging by the length of this one, there's a pretty good chance it's the same one, but shortened by a minute.

Really? That show is up on Netflix and I don't remember this bit from it either.

The belt in this is apt. Back in '92 My brother puked on a family road trip. Ignoring my dad's "I'll pull this van over" routine, I came up with a pretty awesome song about my brother puking on himself, set to the tune of the Rescue Rangers theme.
