Meerkat - 2014-02-22

I MEAN HORRIFIED

chairsforcheap - 2014-02-22

she vlogs like me

Ghoul - 2014-02-22

Seems over dramatic. She can't help but let an angry "Bullshit" at 7:33. The mugging she does afterwards is mischievous.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-02-22

A pasty white ghouless picking at the bones of her dead religion.

ashtar. - 2014-02-22

All of Christianity is a really amusing, futile dance to keep the thought "Hey, someone could have just made all this up" at bay.

Also: would.

Born in the RSR - 2014-02-22

I concur on both issues.

SixDigitDebt - 2014-02-22

those dark, flirty eyes
those pouty, trembling lips
the indignation of her wavering, condescending voice
and the vibrance of her red come-fuck-me-like-a-naughty-girl hair

I don't know how I feel about someone who is ten years of crazy and a layer of makeup away from being Shirley Phelps.

StanleyPain - 2014-02-23

She's fucking hideous, I don't know what you all are talking about.

ashtar. - 2014-02-23

I believe it has been well established that the segment of PoeTV that is into chicks is into crazy chicks.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-23

Hell yeah, the crazier the better.

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-23

Not this kind of crazy. Not me.

Well maybe once or twice.

Mister Yuck - 2019-12-18

Yo

kamlem - 2014-02-23

Whoa! Comparative religion classes are not advocating christianity as the one true religion? She has truly blown this case wide open.

exy - 2014-02-23

Shit! I forgot I was a coward for just biting the bullet and declaring there's no god, that religions are basically all scams, and that both morality and meaning can be found completely outside the confines of any church. This lass has reminded me that it is cowardice not to take a religious, and by religious I mean Christian, stance. Silly me.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2014-02-23

The Oxford Annotated Bible is a masterpiece and everyone should seriously own one, provided you can put up with its milquetoast bs.

Chancho - 2014-02-23

In my opinion, the New Revised Standard Version is without peer as the best available Bible translation, for both readability and accuracy.
Bart Ehrman, author of Misquoting Jesus

Sexy Duck Cop - 2014-02-23

It's pretty fucking great. I spent all day reading Joshua and Judges and it really makes even the most bizarre and incomprehensible Japanese TV commercial parts of the Old Testament seem somewhat lucid.

Robin Kestrel - 2014-02-23

I just muted it and put on Black Hole Sun.

misterbuns - 2014-02-23

:D :D :D :D

EvilHomer - 2014-02-23

Crazy Bible MILF does raise a valid point; the AD/CE thing is, given the context, a bit silly. If the reader is so sensitive to religion that the term "AD" is going to throw her off completely, then she may want to rethink the class she's chosen, as she's going to have a world of trouble with the other million-odd things on the Bible.

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-23

Valid point my ass, AC/DC rules, with or without Bon.

Tripitaka - 2014-02-23

Yes, but if it is a scholarly text, it's more consistent to use CE and BCE. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think most academic papers, texts and coursework use CE/BCE nowadays. Besides, CE still starts the year supposedly Christ was born.
I do love that this is the one thing that drives her absolutely crazy. It basically is her way of delegitimizing the book. "Oh yeah, this is a really helpful and thoughtful bible BUT they use one thing I personally disagree with so the whole thing is obviously worthless shit."

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-02-23

I'm not gonna bother watching, but whats a *scholarly* edition of the bible??

Sexy Duck Cop - 2014-02-23

A version of the Bible written not to convert or proselytize, but to inform the reader on the objective historical, cultural, literary, archaeological, and scholarly contexts in which people study the Bible. They usually contain historical essays, detailed maps, and extensive footnotes on every page. The Oxford Annotated is widely considered the gold standard of these; I've been burning through it the past few days and it does a fantastic job making sense of even the weirdest parts of the Bible.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-02-23

Oh ok, cheers. So I'm guessing a non-scholarly one has annotations along the lines of .. "this bit means gays r evil!" and "donate to church X or face eternal damnation!"

Sexy Duck Cop - 2014-02-23

Not too far off, actually. Older versions were a lot more tendentious--here's a fundie flipping out over the changes the New Oxford made from its Second Edition to the Third. Notice how he doesn't give two shits about any linguistic or historical footnotes, but only the pet issues of modern American conservatives:

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-02-23

Yes, very tendentious. Tendentious indeed..... Tendentious!

The Mothership - 2014-02-23

"It's the height of arrogance."

right, honey, right.

ashtar. - 2014-02-23

I thought she saying "It's the Heideggerians"
Hermeneutic circle? Not in my bible!

Xenocide - 2014-02-23

BLITHERING BUFFOONS!

Way to channel Cobra Commander there, lady.

namtar - 2014-02-23

Gurl, the only thing blasphemous is what you done did to your hair.

If you really love god, why you gonna mess up what he gave you with nasty, fake-ass red?

Jesus, wouldn't like them roots either. Those roots so dark it looks like LeVar Burton is trying to climb over your ear.

Also, stop taking the Lord's name vain. Sinner.

That guy - 2014-02-24

She talks like someone who has an enormous following holding their breath for her every word.

tethercat - 2014-02-27

I always appreciate a good and well thought out review.

This video specifically reminds me of the time that Roger Ebert gave "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, & Her Lover" lavish praise for its art direction and unusual thematic design, while he sat in his car.

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2017-02-22
