Is this guy trying to present a cogent argument? I am just getting random ball of factoids + beepy noises. (Nice beepy noise tho!)

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-02-23

Also I have recently started working in games as a programmer / designer. If any of my games ever become popular enough to generate rage I cant wait for it, just so I can demonstrate how little of a shit I will give :)
Honestly I dont think I would even be aware of it as I'm not all up in social media n shit anyway

Nikon - 2014-02-23

I don't think it's the fanboys/fangirls themselves so much as the focus on AAA titles to the expense of everything else, a new focus on card game titles played on cell phones to the exclusion of better games on consoles/pc, careless cash-in sequels weakening a once strong game line, or trying to water down games to make them appeal to 'western' audiences.

Hit me up if you need audio work done.

I like to pretend there's still some kid of anonymity on here but you can find me on either of the PoE related Facebook groups.

Sure thing man!

Hooker - 2014-02-23

This is unwatchable. Not sure how to rate.

Hooker - 2014-02-23

The sheer fucking vanity it requires to wear glasses without lenses in them, though. My fucking God.

jaunch - 2014-02-24

Good catch-- why not just have plastic or flat-glass lenses? Why go out of your way to ensure us that you're an idiot?

Also all the fast cuts made me nauseous. Also not sure how to rate.

Jack Dalton - 2014-02-23

I cannot watch these fucking fast-edit vanity exercises-- regardless of how interesting the premise might be...

For the record-- fanboys do not ruin games... you can ignore them just as easily as shit vblogs on youtube. I would argue that some of the best games are being made now by independent developers, and conventional big budget games aim for mainstream market without taking much risks, but hey-- those games can be fun too. Let's be honest, most games are a helluva lot better now. You might not have as much fun playing modern games, but that is probably because your expectations are higher than when you played Turok on the N64.

Gmork - 2014-02-23

Games being better how? Again, I point to games like Nidhogg as an example of "gameplay first" development. Priorities should always be on gameplay.

Despite the limitations of the era, more of that was present in the 90's than in the 00s or the the first of half this decade. We have insanely capable computers but no companies with the balls enough to challenge the conventional methods of developing an engine.

I see promise in the crysis 3 engine but it doesn't ever seem to get a lot of good commercial use. Just a few good mechwarrior mods for free. UDK is looking alright, but most of the non-shooter games developed for that engine are aimed for consoles, and thus made with Fruit Stripe grade replayability.

PBS' idea of set redesign for the web: take down album cover pictures, replace them with random, likely public-domain scenery shots.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-02-23

A fanboy is defined as "anybody who holds a countering opinion of your personal favorite intellectual property from your own".

Maru - 2014-02-23

This is all just anti-consumer shit. If you just listen to it, you can see this is no different than the "makers vs. takers" bullshit you hear from republicans.

"It's not the people who make bad games that are the problem; it's the people who buy games, spend time with them, and advertise them for free that are ruining the industry."

Aelric - 2014-02-24

I'd say the blame falls on both sides fairly equally. There is entitlement running both ways. On one hand, you have those that don't want to hear a single criticism about their 'perfect' little creation, on the other you have literally thousands of people everyday telling you to kill yourself or get raped. I do tend to fall on the side of the developers as the mob mentality of piling hate on someone is pretty gross. I've been trolled before. Right here on this site. That was just one guy getting my goat. I can't imagine what it's like when thousands of people pile it on and never, ever stop.

Look at us, I think we do it right, honestly. We have the prime directive to keep us from shitting all over people like crazy Gail and Chris Chan, yet we still express our opinions about the exhibits, while others, like 4chan, can't help themselves and actually commit real harassment towards them, which only makes them worse. This is easily the best comment community I've seen on the net because we don't fuck with each other (mostly) and we explain our comments instead of spewing hate, hate, die die, rape rape. Criticism like most of this site makes is legit, most of what gets through to developers is the hate, die, rape shit, which makes them not bother looking for the real input.

The solution of not listening to all the hate doesn't work either, since then the accusation is that they don't listen to fans. It's the Kobayashi-Maru of the games industry. The only solution I see would be to have the whole internet learn etiquette, which isn't bloody likely.

Maru - 2014-02-26

Why is "spewing hate" (i.e. writing a negative youtube comment) just as bad as putting out a shitty product and making millions and millions of dollars? It's a totally false equivalence you're drawing.

Maru - 2014-02-26

And why isn't there even an ounce of appreciation for the massive majority of gamers who are totally effusive in their support of the games industry, and generous, to the point of obscene, with their money and time? It doesn't make any sense for a developer to be this sensitive when support for video games (and even media in general) has never been less critical.

Aelric - 2014-02-27

Death treats and such are what I was referencing, not legit criticism of the game. It's fine to point out the negative, it's another thing to scream rancid threats over shit. That totally is spewing hate, not pointing out the negative. there is a difference, and the difference is pretty obvious.

Maru - 2014-02-27

The video is subtly conflating the two. The Fez guy ran into hiding because he was getting trashed for being vain and petulant, not from receiving death threats. They imagine that every verbal barb from a twitter dummy is "abuse", even in the context of otherwise universal critical acclaim and massive financial success.

Aelric - 2014-02-24

What is with this video format? This is the PBS template for a discussion video? Just seems like people would confuse your show for the other 20 channels with a hipster talking head with a teenagers bedroom backdrop.
