what

Maggot Brain - 2014-02-16

Is that how is pronounced? "Doh-gee?"

Merzbau - 2014-02-16

I thought it was just "dog" with a long O

infinite zest - 2014-02-17

Did goatse ever make money in the first place? I haven't thought about it for probably a good ten years.. people would just post the link on ircs and stuff and it'd be like "ew gross" and close the page. Sure, there was obviously a lot of word of mouth and it became a huge meme but I don't remember any advertising or anything else on the page, just the image.

Same goes for Doge; the woman who posted a picture of her shiba inu is now famous, but I don't think she's raking in any money like the owners of Grumpy Cat, who decided to put the cat on trendsetting websites and morning news making a book and stuff.

I was kind of annoyed when the "icanhascheezburger" thing went big, after my mom got me the book for Christmas. I made a few of those in the early days when 4chan didn't totally suck, and "anonymous" gets no money.

oddeye - 2014-03-29

Pretty sure he pronounced it correctly like Doge as in a member of Italian nobility.

yogarfield - 2014-02-16

no really, what?

ashtar. - 2014-02-16

I guess goatse.cx is trying to find a way to recoup their losses after their disastrous IPO?

yogarfield - 2014-02-17

I don't know, I'm in shock. Lemon party has been put up for sale, now this. Did they honestly think the Goatse coin would fly?

eatenmyeyes - 2014-02-16

That guy isn't really selling it as a lawyer. They should have tapped me for this.

Gmork - 2014-02-17

uh huh.

eatenmyeyes - 2014-02-17

To clarify, I'm not licensed to practice on Christmas Island. I did not intend for my previous post to imply otherwise.

BiggerJ - 2014-02-17

The current goatse website, goatse.info, has the following notice:

"The goatse.cx lawyer has informed us that we need a warning! So.. if you are under the age of 18 or find this photograph offensive, please don't look at it. Thank you!"

So this is basically an attempt to use a 'character' from a meme in an add for a meme-themed currency.

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-17

The currency isn't a real thing, is it? I mean, that's the joke, right?

PegLegPete - 2014-02-17

So absurdly evil... oh god i wrote a long ramble/parody/satire about this but well... this just speaks for itself. Five fucking stars. The death of net 1.0 - if ever it were a thing - has been sealed in the name of greed. Albeit net 1.0 shock imagery. Never thought goatse would produce sentimentality... is it that? I'm so disillusioned.

ashtar. - 2014-02-17

See, if I were them and I wanted to cash in, I'd come out with a line of goatse.cx cookies.

Call 'em "Famous Anus."

EvilHomer - 2014-02-17

Well that settles it. Dogecoin is now my favorite cryptocurrency.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-17

Nothing legitimizes a new cryptocurrency like Comic Sans.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-17

is real! not joke!

Well, I think it started as a joke, but over the last few months it's overtaken Bitcoin as the most popular cryptocurrency on the planet.

It kinda makes sense, really, if you think about. Everyone likes Doge. That's instant brand recognition, and brand loyalty, two key factors which Bitcoin lacked. Now that they've got goatse on board, all they need is an endorsement from Moot and we'll have us a replacement for the dollar!

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-17

"On December 19, 2013, Dogecoin jumped more than 300 percent in value in 72 hours, rising from USD##CONTENT##.00026 to ##CONTENT##.0095,[21] with a volume of hundreds of Bitcoins per day[22] during a time when Bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies were reeling from China's decision to forbid Chinese banks from investing Chinese Yuan into the Bitcoin economy.[3] On December 22, 2013, Dogecoin experienced its first major crash by dropping by 80% due to large mining pools seizing opportunity in exploiting the very little computing power required at the time to mine the coin."

boner - 2014-02-17

I assume that anybody at this point can create a currency at any time by clicking a button somewhere.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-17

I will follow that lawyer to the ends of the Earth and beyond.

eatenmyeyes - 2014-02-17

I don't think he's an actual attorney.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-02-17

Hi everyone, I'm Kirk Johnson, and I-ANAL from Goatse.cx.
