Captain Picard did NOT make the facepalm "cool". Like most things in that series, TNG lamed up the facepalm, and it remained uncool until Rainbow Dash did it.

I put up with your horse faggotry as much as I can, but don't you dare besmirch TNG.

TheOtherCapnS - 2014-01-27

Or, uh, that isn't very magically-friendly, or whatever

I'm not besmirching TNG, I'm simply stating a fact.

Look, perhaps I shuld be a bit more clear. The Picard facepalm was certainly well-done. It was expertly delivered, and in context, was extremely amusing. But there is a difference between "amusing" and "cool". Coolness goes beyond mere amusement; it's visceral and ballsy, two traits which Picard sorely lacked. Consider the context: Picard's most famous facepalm was a reaction to the sudden appearance of Q. The facepalm was exasperated, dejected, tired - emotions that are very, very Picard-like. Now, I'm no Picard-hater. I like Picard as much as the next guy, but let's be honest here, Picard wasn't much of a captain. He was a school-teacher, a pencil-pusher, a good candidate for staff officer, diplomatic liaison, or maybe even a tenured Academy instructor... but captain of a starship? And not just any starship, but a state-of-the-art starship specifically tasked with the most dangerous forward-reconnaissance missions in the entire fleet?

A real captain, a daring captain, a captain with some chutzpah, wouldn't cover his eyes like a tired old matron when a threat like Q popped up. KIRK would have taken decisive action, and he wouldn't have stopped probing Q for weaknesses until the little bastard was either out-smarted or out-fought, probably both. Kirk wouldn't have facepalmed, he would have face-kicked! And while that might not have actually stopped Q, it would have made for one hell of a scene! Because Kirk was *cool*.

Picard had many admirable traits, but being cool was not one of them.

My month is now filled with happy reading a bronie debating Jean-Luc Picard's coolness factor versus animated equestrian antics.

The whole reason I come back to this site. :)

Between living rooms and rec rooms, Michael Gross sure has had a colorful variety of exotic species breaking in to the wrong room.

don't jump to conclusions lol!

Quad9Damage - 2014-01-28

This show is streaming on Netflix. Should I watch it?

Scrimmjob - 2014-01-28

Only the racism episode.

infinite zest - 2014-01-28

And the one where Boner goes to enlist in the Army but is killed in a car because Alex was taking pills. Powerful.

Quad9Damage - 2014-01-29

I watched the pilot episode, where Alex's parents had to take action because Alex, trying to impress this airhead of a future trophy wife or something, was hanging out at a country club reserved for elitist, upper-crust racist snobs. Was that the racism episode?

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-01-29

You can watch maybe 2-3 episodes, get the gist of it, and not force yourself to watch any more of it. You won't miss anything.
