I love these so much.

I keep waiting for the weird freaky alien to walk by at normal speed, then it looks at the camera, then they take me.

wasn't that a star trek TOS? and she was pretty hot for a freaky alien

I think you are confusing slitscan with high-speed video.

well, he makes his own cameras and he calls it a type of slit-scan. I know what you mean, but in this case I think it's incorrect terminology.

found some source here:
http://www.opiomgallery.com/en/artistes/oeuvresphotographe/21/ adam-magyar

"Magyar uses cameras usually geared for photo-finish ; i.e. an instantaneous vertical screening of one pixel from a fixed point ; in order to capture not so much a few seconds but rather several (2 to 3) minutes of such urban landscapes. Thus , static objects become linear, whereas those in motion are pictures with relative degrees of reality as far as their motion-speed is concerned."
"Stainless also bears on the part of individuality that we profess. Thanks to a reprogrammed industrial quality slit-cam , modified to suit his needs, the Artist freezes the instant when subway wagons , still traveling at full speed, enter the station. "

Most slit-scan video we see these days is using the technique to create distortion for aesthetics. In this video he's using slit-scanning to make a very high speed video.

What I want to know is, why is it always drone music with these sorts of things?

More, please. These are very pretty and calming, and also fantastic historical documents. These capture the zeitgeist.
