Fast or slow, it all sounds the same to me. How many ways can you say "look at me, I'm important!"???

StanleyPain - 2014-01-24

Now that's an unfair characterization of the modern complexity of rap music. At least half of it is about bitches, money, club activities, and all the people whose asses you're gonna kick for various unspecified reasons.

Get with the times GRANDPA!

SolRo - 2014-01-24

Just don't start getting into the complex variations and nuances of capping, tapping, smacking...etc, dat ass.

Funny thing is, there's still some interesting ideas that I've heard on the street that would make good rap songs....

Back when I lived in the shittier parts of Brooklyn, there was a game the kids played called "fuck you nigger". Anyone could play, such is the way of brooklyn youth. You and a friend stand on the street corner, and you say "Fuck you! Nigger!". Then you friend replies, "No. Fuck you, nigger!". this goes back and forth. The game is, how many different ways can you say it?

In fact, there's a lot of variations, much like a good pop melody. For example, "Fuck. You. NIGGER!" "fuck you, nigger..." FUCK! You nigger!" "Nigger, fuck you!" "Nigger, you fuck!" "You fucking nigger" etc etc etc.

Sometimes, this game would go on for the better part of an hour.

That also happens on Xbox Live.

Bitches, money, club activities, and imminent ass-kickings are all manifestations of importance. Same with capping, tapping, and the smacking of asses. All of these allegedly disparate themes, can ultimately be traced back to status and the act of boasting.

Of course, one might argue that the majority of culturally-significant musical expression, across history, class, and cultures, came down to the artist saying "look at me, I'm important". Mozart, for example, was an incorrigible showoff, and would he have bothered composing were it not for promises of royal favor and a discrete buffet of upscale pussy?

lol black and their rap music amirite folks?

SolRo - 2014-01-24

Is hating rappers, including white ones, off limits?

Spike Jonez - 2014-01-24

You crackers need to listen to some good rap.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-01-24

Say what you will, but don't underestimate my song idea. You can squeeze a lot of meanings and emotional expression out of those three magic words. It really takes off with two people, because you're trying always to one up the other ( great performance material ) but I could see a solo rap as well. Try it with a friend, and work up all the variations. I guarantee you'll be laughing by the end of it.

SolRo - 2014-01-25

Spike how about you go diving in that diarrhea filled pool and get the diamond you know is at the bottom, and I'll listen to it.

EvilHomer - 2014-01-24

BLACK PEOPLE ALL SOUND THE SAME.

In other music conspiracy news, every song ever made sped up was written by Dave Seville, but those pesky chipmunks settled for mixed nuts and a chance to meet Dracula.

ShiftlessRastus - 2014-01-24

Does it work the opposite way too, with a pitched up Jay-Z song?

NineEleven - 2014-01-25

Yes, with the same dubious results.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-01-27
