5 for disturbing

This show had the balls SNL never had.

How I mourned it's loss.

Yeah, I'd like to submit more clips from it, but I'm not sure if they would clear the hopper. The Diner of the Living Dead one is a classic, for instance.

I know little about this show outside of the Andy Kaufman thing. Intentionally breaking the fourth wall is like a magic trick you can only do once.

It's hard to watch Michael Richards and not kind of overlay his future standup meltdown every moment of his performance.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-01-21

really? It's easy for me to separate the two, but maybe I have more exposure to his early stuff than most people.

I watched the "failed edgy comedy" video several times because I did a presentation on it for a class I was taking at the time. (I also admit I didn't see as much early stuff.) I guess it seared into my brain, because I kind of think that the meltdown involved some deep-seated beliefs. So young M.R. is the M.R. who's going to someday hurl epithets at a balcony and call it comedy. It's just swirling around in there waiting to leak out.

You've studied The Incident (tm) more than I have -- hell, you've studied it and I haven't -- but the sense I had is, Michael Richards was angry and so he was looking to push whatever buttons he believed his target had, not unload his own personal baggage. Any particular reason(s) you lean the other direction?
