A bunch of Japanese people are flipping their shit over this movie right now, calling Miyazaki an anti-Japanese, left-wing propagandist, traitor to his nation because of it.

I have to see it.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-07-25

Why are they flipping out? What's so scandalous about it?

Cena_mark - 2013-07-25

I'm reading it has more to do with him wanting Japan to apologize and pay reparations to comfort women.

Cockmaster Flash - 2013-07-25

Miyazaki committed the mortal sin of saying that Japan should apologize to and compensate the comfort women.

Also, he thinks changing the constitution, especially repealing the antiwar clause, is a bad idea.

fedex - 2013-07-25

well with Abe just getting elected I think he's got an uphill battle to say the least. Talk about timing!

Cherry Pop Culture - 2013-07-25

Yeah! Fuck Miyazaki! How dare he want reparations to Koreans! To women! To Korean women! How dare he see injustice done in the past and want to see a difference and acknowledgement being made. Fuck him and all he stands for, that stupid motherfucker!

Lef - 2013-07-25

Abe doesn't have the super majority needed to change the constitution, so without enough parties to get the 2/3rd support, it's not gonna happen.

He also stated his priority is fighting deflation.

This looks pretty.

SolRo - 2013-07-25

it's just extremists that take everything as a threat or insult.

there are the same on the Korean side, sending death threats, etc, any time something even vaguely reminds them of japan before 1950.

Just remember, there are stupid Asians too, and stuff like this is easy to understand.

Aelric - 2013-07-26

True that. Koreans riot and weep over minor league baseball losses to teams with Japanese sponsorship. Japan has the "white pig go home" vans blasting purity propaganda down the Tokyo streets at 4 in the morning. Dokto, an island in contention since WW2 is enough to get Koreans murderously angry even if they don't quite get why. Japanese students tend to violently and mercilessly bully other students with any trace of Korean heritage to the approval of many teachers. They are the Israel and Palestine of Asia and they are both fucked up. They don't shoot rockets at each other, but they also refuse to act like grown up countries in regards to each other.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2013-07-25

I'm being sarcastic, by the way

MrBuddy - 2013-07-26

Oh, yeah? Really? Well I can be sarcastic too. How do you like that?

I can also be not sarcastic, like when I say the stars are fore Jet Bin Fever who is the only one of us (me included) who made a comment about the actual video.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-07-27

Oh, thanks man.

StanleyPain - 2013-07-25

So, I don't know a lot about Japanese history: I know this guy designed the Zero planes, but since they were kind of used for an awful purpose, is there something about this guy why Miyazaki and crew would want to memorialize him? Is he sort of like a Japanese Oppenheimer figure where he did something technically interesting which was then exploited for bad and then he regretted it?

SolRo - 2013-07-26

engineers aren't military, they just make the best/safest machine with the resources and time they're given. how those machines are used is entirely up to the military.

also you have a bad case of seeing history from the victors viewpoint...zero fighters did awful things, but the American fighters and bombers that firebombed and then nuked over a million civilians to death are national treasures that get big cheers at airshows?

StanleyPain - 2013-07-26

Thanks for the lecture, strawman argument, and not answering what I asked.

unknown specimen - 2013-07-26

The dude did invent some really cool planes. I'm not sure this would be the equivalent of an animated Oppenheimer movie. More along the lines of if someone made a film about Arthur Scherbius.

Although he could just be making it to tell the Japanese to stop being proud of what they did in WWII. No one should be proud of what they did in WWII, especially the Japanese.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-07-26

YES. I LOVE YUMI ARAI. This song is one of my all time favorites.
