EvilHomer - 2013-05-27
Fuck you, John Leguizamo.
|
|
freedoom - 2013-05-27 EvilHomer has just never seen The Pest.
|
|
Binro the Heretic - 2013-05-27 He's got a long way to go before I forgive him for "Moulin Rouge."
|
Cena_mark - 2013-05-27 Yes "the film". I'm not the type of douche bag who describes a motion picture as either a film or a movie based on their perceived artistic merits. Casa Blanca, Citizen Kane, Armageddon, Dunston Checks In, and Ernest Scared Stupid are all films and they are all movies.

EvilHomer - 2013-05-27 "He appreciates the film." There. Right there.
Had he come out apologizing, I would have forgiven him. I would have said, "there, there, John Leguizamo. You're not a bad actor. You just made a bad decision." Then we have hugged, and laughed, and started reminiscing about how terrible The Pest was.
But noooooooo, fuckface Fake Luigi Who Fights Dinosaurs For Some Reason has to go and say that he's a goddamn pioneer. PIONEER OF RUINING VIDEO GAME CANON ON THE SILVER SCREEN, MAYBE. I hold that movie personally responsible for all the Street Fighters, Postals, Dooms, Blood Raynes, Resident Evils (2 and on), and Mortal Kombats (2, not 1, the first one was awesome) we've had to endure over the last couple decades.
Worse still, the dude KNOWS he's full of shit. Here's a quote from Wikipedia:
"John Leguizamo also admitted in 2007 that he too disliked his role as Luigi in the film, and expressed dissatisfaction with the film's direction. He also said in his biography that both he and Bob Hoskins did not enjoy working on the film, frequently getting drunk to go through it, knowing that it would turn out bad."
Now picture this same clip, only with him saying THAT instead of what we actually got. That'd be awesome! And informative! And radical! Yeah yeah, I know, he's trying to be tactful here, because this is meant to be a promo, and he wants to convince people to buy, watch, or at least give a shit about his twenty year-old abortion. But a little honesty would go a long way; maybe he could embrace how awful the film was, and promote it as crap to be watched ironically, a la Troll 2 or The Room? Maybe he could cut his loses and disavow it completely? Something, anything, just so long as he doesn't try and rehabilitate this film.
What, does he think I'm still an 8 year old kid?! Some dumb little dweeb in a Mario t-shirt who'll go watch that shitty ass film just because it's got Mario in it?! Just lie to little Homer, he won't know the difference, he'll just sit there and take it. Well, no more, John Leguizamo! I'm all grown up now, and I don't have to take any more of your shit!!!

Wander - 2013-05-27 I just want to take a moment here and congratulate Evilhomer on consistently really standing out as a terrible nerd on a website completely populated by them. Good job, Evilhomer.

Cena_mark - 2013-05-27 I love this film. I know its a bad film and some people think its so bad it shouldn't even be called a film, but I love it for its hokey charm and bizarre qualities. Nobody is saying its a great film. John is merely showing his appreciation for the cult following the film has garnered. He may have felt that the film was a waste when he was working on it, but now he feels like it was worth it all along.
|
EvilHomer - 2013-05-27 Oh, I'm not one of those people who says it's not a film. I agree with your comment about douchebags and their "films and movies", partly because I have terrible taste in films to begin with. But Mario Bros, that movie holds a special place of hatred in my heart... or it would, could I remember anything about it aside from deeply-repressed feelings of pain and helplessness. I really, really hope you're exaggerating when you say it's garnered a "cult following", but something tells me you're not.
And Wander, glad to see my work is appreciated! Did you catch the My Little Pony references I made? I included two!
|
Spaceman Africa - 2013-05-27 EvilHomer is just mad John Leguizamo never read his script for the Super Mario Brothers movie
|
Cena_mark - 2013-05-27 I understand your anger, I assume you were very pumped to see it as a kid and then had your heart broken. I first saw that film when I was in college. I think being introduced to the it as an adult gave me a greater appreciation for its subtle charms.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-27 Don't hold this movie responsible for Uwe Boll's crappy video game movies. Thank whatever tax breaks he got for being a German citizen and filming in his home country.
Also, he often used the sets/costumes for double-duty. I think he used the nazi costumes from Bloodrayne for his Auschwitz-oriented movie (which I didn't see beyond the trailers, figuring it was worse than his video game efforts).

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-27 Better than Schindler's List.

|
Old_Zircon - 2013-05-28 I own this on VHS and I've seen it at least 6 or 7 times. It's one of the definitive bad movies of its era. It's like Total Recall reimagined as a family film.
About 5 years ago I had to get rid of about 80% of my then vast VHS collection. I could only take two or three boxes with me when I moved, and the rest were given away. Super Mario Brothers was one of the few that made the cut, beating out a lot of rare and valuable big box horror tapes and stuff like that.
Plus it predicted 9/11.

freedoom - 2013-05-27
good lord, he's just rambling on and on.

chumbucket - 2013-05-27
Took a good minute to figure out he's wearing a hat.

Mother_Puncher - 2013-05-27
He's clearly drunk. I do the same thing when I'm drunk except I retell this movie and Birdemic scene for scene

Quad9Damage - 2013-05-27
Why do I feel like this is a mental breakdown?
|
Mother_Puncher - 2013-05-27 He's reading a script and they have his family.
|
Riskbreaker - 2013-05-27
Ok ok ok, so, this movie has fans? That's for me the biggest shock right here.
|
Old_Zircon - 2013-05-27
I would have asked for this if I'd thought of it.
This is better than Hearts Of Darkness.
Van Diesel.

BiggerJ - 2013-05-28
One of the writers provided a plot for the second film, and now it's being made into a webcomic: http://smbthecomic.com/
It's got Toad. It's got Shy Guys. And the new villain is just as much of a victim of creative license as Koopa.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-28 I'm getting virus warnings followed by "problem loading page" errors with that site. I get a glimpse of what I'm assuming is a movie poster, but beyond that, nothing.
|
BiggerJ - 2013-05-28 I use Firefox with NoScript, no problems here.
What you were seeing was a splash page near the start. Here's the cover, you sooky-la-la: http://smbthecomic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/2013-05-24-tease r-cover.jpg

Nikon - 2013-05-28
I saw this movie. It was very unique.
|
Nikon - 2013-05-30 I wanted to add that I think there is some good in coming to terms with the mistakes you make, accepting them, and moving on. With enough time, you might even be able to laugh about them.
|
Old_Zircon - 2014-05-27
This just keeps getting better. It's like a scene from a Christopher Guest movie.
|
Spit Spingola - 2016-05-28
Why does this remind me of that AVGN Ghostbusters video?
