Didn't everyone involved with this get blasted with radiation for being too close, including the cameraman?

One of these behemoths sits outside Junction City, KS. It's out in a park by the side of the highway overlooking the town and the nearby fort.
It's pretty immature and stupid to climb up and straddle the cannon between your legs while making some dick reference, but when you are there it's impossible to resist.

Even though the audio is fake and video cut from so many sources, I can't help but give props to high def hell in a bottle.

We also made nuclear shells for battleship guns and smaller field artillery. And a nuclear bazooka. And land mines. And depth charges. And a satchel charge. And air to air missiles.
We had these cannons in service for 10 years and deployed them in Europe and Korea, despite what a monstrously stupid idea the basic concept of it was. I cannot actually believe we survived the 1950's.

The good ol' Davey Crockett. It's a great example of wasting a LOT of money for something that's tactical use is extremely limited. The initial idea was to mount those on trains, but since almost all of our wars are "away games" the transport and assembly wasn't really logistically feasible.
Still, it'd be fucking great to see one of these go off (from a safe distance).

RockBolt - 2013-04-16 That's not the Davy Crockett, this is the Davy Crockett:
