You should put in a "Stan Winston" tag.

Done.

Holy shit, I remember watching this as a kid as some Saturday night creature feature thing. It stars Cornel Wilde (great actor/director) and eventually Bernie Casey, of all people, shows up as Gargoyle. The first half actually isn't too bad by made-for-TV cheeze standards, but it devolves in the second half pretty bad.

I loved this movie when I was a kid, which is weird because I rarely like horror movies.

As a child, I was delighted to find I could replicate the gargoyle voice effect with an aluminum-foil-covered comb.

Ah, the 70s were a Golden Age for the TV movie, everything from serious dramas to horror films - I have a certain affection for made-for-TV horror flicks from this era.

Same here. I really enjoy the Guliermo del Toro redeaux of "Don't Be Afraid of Dark", but have vague memories of enjoying the old MFTV.movie. I'm afraid of looking up the latter for fear those fond reminiscences would be shattered.

(I also recall the creature effects being quite lame)

Ayup, brings back memories all right.

I still haven't seen this, but I remember Stephen King went on a very long, heartfelt tangent about it in the forward he wrote for a photo book about gargoyles I had in middle school, so I've always been kind of curious.

A bit like Troll 2 in that there are absolutely no creatures of a titular nature involved.

Indeed, the only beasts featured in this film were of a grotesque type.

Two stars.

Making the main gargoyle look like a typical black dude could not have been an accident.
