I've been trying to get people to watch this for years. It's worth it.

Old_Zircon - 2013-01-07

It's pretty great, but it feels a little more deliberately exploitative than the original Dancing Outlaw, so -1 for that.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-01-07

These people deserve to be exploited. They deserve a public shaming in the stock and pillory, but that's not likely to happen, so we have to take what we can get.

sjohnson301 - 2013-01-07

Stars for the evil people. Aside from their cultural significance, which is indeed important, the world would be a better place without these people in it. Also, agree with Old Z that the film is exploitative, complete with shock-and-awe loud shitty metal music ruining at least half of the documentary.

Eroticus E - 2013-01-07

20 minutes in, and I haven't heard any metal music.

"Aside from their cultural significance, which is indeed important, the world would be a better place without these people in it."

Replace 'cultural' with 'environmental' and oh dear god Squidbillies is real.

The feral Americans of the Appalachian mountains are interesting because they demonstrate what white people turn into after a few generations of devolving in the wilderness apart from civilization. It's not what a lot of people think.

wtf japan - 2013-01-07

1:24:31 is pretty fucking great though.

I've lived in WV since I was 10. I kind of have a love/hate relationship with the state. Anyway, I tried watching this a while back on Netflix and just couldn't finish it. It's just too close.

Maggot Brain - 2013-01-07

Kind of boring pill popper story. There's also some dancing.

Paracelsus - 2013-01-07

Drug-addled, loathsome, criminal scum suffering from their own choices. Five stars.

kennydra - 2013-01-07

It's gone :(

wackyakmed - 2013-01-07

I grew up near here. I know these people are horrible, but understand this is one part of the country where the white people have been screwed over almost as much as minorities everywhere else. There's been generation upon generation of economic warfare, and real warfare when that failed (read about the whiskey rebellion and WV mine wars, off the top of my head). They didn't end up like this by accident.

Five staring the above comment. This is why I love POETV. Smart folks like wackyakmed.

This. The video got yanked before I had a chance to see, but I can guess: uneducated white people living in rural America have few opportunities and make choices that we can't imagine making.

Between this and the Appalachian Kentucky documentary from the other year, I'm beginning to think the Appalachians themselves are our enemy. They leave people isolated and without access to education, job opportunities, or resources.

Bort - 2015-05-22

"I'm beginning to think the Appalachians themselves are our enemy."

... the Appalachian MOUNTAINS themselves, not the Appalachian inhabitants. I think you knew what I meant, but just making sure.
