I really hope this is just one of those clever editing jobs.
|
Millard - 2012-12-06 Has anything over two hours long ever been a "clever editing job?" Aside from maybe Das Boot?

POE smorgasbord. I keep wanting to post a time-stamp, or quote a line, but there's too much to pick from. It's too rich.

This is why I'm getting rid of cable. By the way, why include a fat and thin person. Both are changeable, and being on either extreme are poor choices that need help. Race is not something you are able to change. You can't tell me that thin person is anorexic, and that fat person is healthy. Maybe some intolerance is good for a society, like intolerance of scientific illiteracy or ideological thinking, or racist assholes, or people that are leading unhealthy lifestyles which their relatives and kids adopt and celebrate?
|
HarrietTubmanPI - 2012-12-06 By the way, I lost a lot of weight and now eat healthy and live an active lifestyle. It took very hard work, and I'm happier now than I've ever been. You can get healthy if you just work at it.
|
HarrietTubmanPI - 2012-12-06 Correction, the thin girl doesn't look healthy either.

Old_Zircon - 2012-12-06 Going into year 12 without cable, haven't missed it yet.
|
|
Old_Zircon - 2012-12-06 Exactly, who needs cable when theres the internet? Everything on cable ends up here anyhow.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-12-06 "This is why I'm getting rid of cable"
Why? So you can keep receiving this putrid program, since Dr. Phil isn't on cable networks to begin with?
The only good thing that ever happened on this vile show is when the guy who pays homeless guys to fight each other got invited on as a guest, then walked out on stage and told Phil how he's an evil piece of shit who exploits the shit out of people, and is even worse than himself because he covers his acts up with this facade of being some caring, kind, concerned, god fearing do-gooder. Phil, naturally, could not argue with any of this since it was 100% true, so he resorted to going into a strawman tirade along the lines of "YOU SIR ARE FILTH AND IMMORAL AND I SHALL NOT SULLY MY COINCIDENCE NOR WASTE MY BREATH BY TALKING TO THE LIKES OF YOU!" and kicked him off the show. A good chunk of the brainless audience applauded, but some of them just stood silent, which means they probably got their eyes opened.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-12-06
I'm going to save this one for later. 2 hours of this will take a remarkable amount of effort to sit through. I know it will be worth it in the end, but yeesh!
|
|
Jet Bin Fever - 2012-12-06 Okay. The fat suit. The "Soul Man" style turning a white guy brown thing. Absolutely terrible.

Prickly Pete - 2012-12-06
Is anyone else reminded of a twisted version of a "Saw" within the first 10 minutes?

It's crap, but it's compelling crap. So... stars, I guess?

You ever see Cube? This is like if the Cube were somehow shifting rooms made up of the most pig-ignorant and loudmouthed assholes gleefully rolling in their own shit. It's must see tv.
|
kingarthur - 2012-12-06 After watching four minutes of this, I think this is the video that will finally break poetv. There's just too much to take in.

We're going to update the code of ethics for psychology to include the issues raised by radio and television at some point, right?
|
memedumpster - 2012-12-06 If you mean whether or not it's ethical to experiment on people for entertainment, I hope not. Once entertainment has to follow strict clinical ethics, goodbye every haunted house, theme park, and whatever else people will claim unethical misleading of fragile minds on when a surprise pisses them off.

This shit is a perfect example of everything wrong with political correctness, distilled neatly into a reality-TV trainwreck. It completely trivializes racism and homophobia into personal prejudices and individual moral failings, without any real discussion of the institutions that perpetuate bigotry in its worst, most oppressive and violent forms. It's designed to shame the ignorant into feeling guilty so the educated (in this case, a two-bit pop psychologist) can ultimately wash their hands of it and posture as if they've made a difference.
We've had encounter groups and sensitivity training since the 60's, and it's made barely a dent in institutional racism or homophobia. The only reason anyone pretends that policing people's language is worthwhile is because we're so accustomed to living in a culture where most of the biggest victories are merely symbolic.
|
EvilHomer - 2012-12-06 I was gonna tease you for being "that one star guy", but you know what? You're right. I'd personally go a step further and say political correctness is "wrong" because the very idea of policing language and engineering social thought is morally reprehensible and socially regressive, but you do bring up a good point.
It's actually kind of comforting to know that no matter how smart and sophisticated the educated classes think they are, nature will win out in the end.

From wikipedia's entry on Dr. Phil:
"The Making of Dr. Phil is a biography by Sophia Dembling, a reporter from the Dallas Morning News, and Lisa Gutierrez, a reporter from The Kansas City Star.[3] The book probes McGraw's history, with interviews of his childhood friends and former classmates. The book reports that McGraw allegedly used unethical business practices in a gym business early in his career, that he was allegedly abusive to his first wife and to his staff, while noting that he overcame adversity through setting goals and was persistent in achieving success"
"McGraw married his first wife, an ex-cheerleader and homecoming queen named Debbie Higgins McCall, in 1970, when he was 20 years old.[10] According to her, McGraw was domineering and would not allow her to participate in the family business. She claimed that she was confined to domestic duties, which included lifting weights to improve her bustline."
These allegations shock & surprise me.

If POETV had a sticky feature, I'd expect this video to stay up there for at least a month. All of the major POETV bases are covered with this one.

Crackersmack - 2012-12-06
I watched the whole thing except the extra-long confessional shit in the middle.
They put the racist white guy in blackface around 1:50, and then they get a bunch of black guys to pretend that he isn't immediately recognizable as a white dude with a guido spray tan. Five stars for that alone.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-12-07 I watched the first minute or so and then zipped up to this moment and I'm pretty comfortable if humanity just goes extinct now.
