It started as a joke, some comedy skits about the Luftwaffe's disastrous contract for F-104 fighters, but friends of Calvert started showing up to jam on it, Brian Eno, Viv Stanshall, and the classic '74 Hawkwind lineup, making it a full concept album. Look for the entire album on YT.

I actually go between muttering/yelling out the comedy skits alone or with company, but almost never alone in public so I know I'm not really psycho.-- been carrying on since 1997 when I got the album. I'm even making an entire animated short with a holographic pilot who flies a space-worthy F-104.*

How do you know stuff about the background of this? I read about there being a full-scale theatrical production--any idea if any of it is saved somewhere? Instead we get The Last Starfighter.

*(About 6 minutes of good footage, most this takes place after this thing's crashed on earth and the pilot's meandering around getting chased by cops, but the finale is crazy air combat stuff that I hope I'm up to the task of pulling it off.)

This album is so good. The 80s repress is usually pretty cheap, too. I think mine was around and is pretty much like new. Absolutely worth it if you like Hawkwind.
