A way to make ground beef look fresh is to infuse it with carbon monoxide, which is perfectly legal, as apparently CO is safe to eat.

joelkazoo - 2012-11-16 Also remember in "Gump & Co." (yes, I did read it, back when I didn't know any better) they talked about how they would let the oysters feed in a sewage treatment plant till they got nice and fat, then go out into international waters and dunk them for a few days to "clean them out", resulting in meaty, delicious, perfectly safe oysters. Would that really work?

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-15 It worked for Dick Gregory, at least according to his cookbook. He claimed he hadn't needed food in something like 14 months. He also claimed it was OK to raise your cats vegan.
He was a pretty good comedian.

ever read a book?
ever read a book
called the jungle?
by upton sinclair?
in which he tells you
how to make a recipe
recipe for sausage
sausage
if you don't understand
what that is
it's basically just
sausage
made out of the
leftover pieces
of old left over
sausage
most people
will eat sausage sausage
as if it was
just sausage
but i won't
it's cause i read a book

I've heard similar queasy stories about "recycled" noodles and dumplings manufactured by unscrupulous factories in China.
