I was all set to rail on this fucktard for spending 00 on novelty shoes, but apparently all the money for these things went to Parkinson's disease research.

Kabbage - 2012-11-12

Well, I mean, this guy would never, ever have donated to Parkinson's disease research if he wasn't going to get a limited edition Back to the Future prop shoe out of it. Surely some part of that is worthy of a healthy helpin' of hatin'

simon666 - 2012-11-12

If you want to hate on something, hate on the reviews section from Wikipedia:

Reviews

Owners, say that the shoe is awesome and everyone loves it. One man Jeremy Lyner said that he loved the shoes and would never get rid of them. Others say that they are worth the ,000 plus. He also said that he bought the shoes for ,000 and that he is a cab driver in New York, and only makes about 100 dollars a day. He says he bought the shoes because he is a uber Back To The Future fan. "I am not rich, I am a middle class unmarried man and I bought the Nike Mag Airs, because I love BTTF, Never, not even for ,000,000, would I sell these shoes. I know people who make less than me and they also bought the shoes. They are priceless to me and any person who loves BTTF would buy them, no matter the cost, I am the breadwinner of my family, witch as right now, is just me. A family with two breadwinners should have no problem buying it." eBay still has these on the market. People are reselling for less money. Right now they are going ,000 - ,000

Blue - 2012-11-12

How much have you donated to Parkinson's disease research?

I can't get on board with this because I'm not really willing to make the absurd assertion that given a lot of money I wouldn't spend it on things I wouldn't be able to afford with less money.

If you play video games or use sex toys you've spent enough money on a hobby to give someone in the third world an education.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-11-12

Have you ever heard of a show called "Million Dollar Rooms"?

You probably shouldn't ever watch it.

Kabbage - 2012-11-12

Blue: True. Very true. This tall drink of douche has done more for Parkinson's research than I ever have, simply by having a terrible hobby and tons of money to throw at it.

I just really really want to talk about how stupid collecting shoes is, especially if you're a guy.

Binro: I watched one episode with my mom once. At least I think it was Million Dollar Rooms. This insanely rich couple were looking for places near the ocean, walking distance. They found this utterly gorgeous house with oak floors, polished, really lived-in but in a truely beautiful way.

The wife loved it and so did the husband, but the husband had some really intense OCD tendencies. Or something like that. Every place he checked out he would take one step into a pristine bathroom and say "this will all have to be re-done". He said that a lot. In fact, they decided to take the place, but he hated hated hated how asymmetrical the wood knots were. It drove him insane. So he had it redone. He had the entire room completely torn down and replaced with - I shit you not - a type of wood that has asymmetrical knots in exactly the same manner. But with this, he knew the asymmetry was "intentional", manufactured (because it was the style of the wood I guess?), not natural.

It cost several million dollars to do, and it looked tragically worse. But he had money to spare.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-11-12

That doesn't sound like the same show.

"Million Dollar Rooms" is hosted by the guy who used to host "Trading Spaces" except instead of giving neighbors thousands of dollars to ruin each others' homes, he visits rich pricks at their mega-mansions and fawns over them.

It's like "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" except it inspires even more rage & hatred.

Doomstein - 2012-11-12

And they don't even have power laces. Tsk...

But you know what? I have my own odd collections that I obsess over. What makes it probably worse is that they rotate. Switchblades, US Military Rifles 1903-1950's, Fedoras (actually had to take up the hat making trade in order to fufill my needs), Engines, swords, guitars, Suits and Misc haberdashery (hankercheifs, cufflinks, tie clips bars, pins and chains)... I get bored with one thing then move on.

At least these people can stick with something they love. I envy that.

I bet he just has a closet full of expensive shoes. My home looks like a curio shop exploded.

Preybyemail - 2012-11-12

You collect fedoras? Never saw that shit coming.

James Woods - 2012-11-12

I had no idea you were autistic.

Doomstein - 2012-11-12

I probably am. I just wish I were the type with remarkable skills.

James Woods - 2012-11-16

I still love you just the same.

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-12

Same here, the difference is all but one of the couple dozen 0-0 records I have cost me less than each, most of them less than .

A big part of the fun of collecting is discovery, I don't get the appeal of owning something because you were the biggest fool with the deepest pocket.

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-12

That was supposed to be a reply but whatever.

Collecting is kind of dumb if you're paying collector prices for stuff.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2012-11-13

I dunno, I play Magic and sometimes the only way for me to get a certain card is by shelling out cash for it. It's usually the last card needed for a deck of mine :/.

The Mothership - 2012-11-13

Dude, Zircon - I am getting Alf memorabilia ads on my POETV page here. I think Support is trying to tell us something.

urworstnightmare - 2012-11-12

i rather use that amount of money to wipe my ass

it's maybe what nike's owners do with the money they earn from those morons

The Mothership - 2012-11-12

I think POETV needs a week where we all submit all the stupid shit that we respectively collect or spend big money on, stuff that other people would quickly make fun of.

Rosebeekee - 2012-11-12

But I collect several things people laugh at. How could I possibly decide?

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-12

But nobody here would laugh at ALF memoribilia and anyway my collection is only a couple shirts, a hand puppet, a comic book and a homemade needlepoint tapestry I found in someone's trash.

EvilHomer - 2012-11-12

Lingerie catalogues with all the models' eyes scratched out.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-11-12

Children's shoes.

sosage - 2012-11-12

What is interesting to me about this is when I consider the heterosexual, macho element that obsesses over shoes...like every female I've ever met. I'm sympathetic to other people's collection hobby even if I am not into it. I can even get why something is considered cool or unique, even if I otherwise would not care (and I think this shoe is a cool idea).

It's just if every collecting hobby were to go WW3 and start launching stones at each other, I'd predict the Nike collector glass house to be an early and catastrophic casualty of war.

Suedeo - 2012-11-13

Knives

Hooker - 2012-11-12

Alfred Hitchcock said that movies are real life without the boring parts. YouTube is the boring parts put back in. Why would anyone think them opening something they bought would be interesting?

Doomstein - 2012-11-12

I honestly think that half the people that watch these videos use them as instruction manuals to produce and package counterfeit items.

The other half are so obsessive they'll immerse themselves in anything (and I mean anything) related to the product.

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-12

That's a good point about counterfeiting, I never thought of that. Nice to know these videos actually have a valuable function.

Kabbage - 2012-11-12

Know that I almost didn't submit it because of how objectively terrible it was. I was just hoping to hear people come up with creative insults for shoe collectors.

EvilHomer - 2012-11-12

"Make sure your baby has food, make sure you have a roof over your head. Don't buy shoes like this if you don't have the money."

Well, that's it. Looks like it's rooting for the terrorists again for me.

boner - 2012-11-12

I wonder if he has wall-mounted fax machines that spit out "YOU'RE FIRED"

Doomstein - 2012-11-12

MACFRY!!!!

Blue - 2012-11-12

What are you, living under a rock?

There are people that can legally drink that were born after this movie was made.
