This will hurt somebody...!

I'm so glad that somebody has finally told the story. There was a time when I dreamed of making this myself. Back when I got my first dial-up connection, before I ever became obsessed with Boxxy, I became obsessed with the Budd Dwyer footage. Not in a sadistic or morbid way. I'm not a gorehound. I wanted to know the story behind what I was seeing. I slogged through pages and pages of google results, mostly snarky little bastards having a laugh, including some assclown who was photographed dancing on Budd's grave. I corresponded with a man who claimed to be a friend of Budd's. I special-ordered out-of-print books, and I wrote an article for my now-defunct blog, "The Major League Republican News"

I was never able to sort through all the details, but the closer you get to the story, the more you encounter people who think Budd Dwyer was innocent.

I'm not sure if everybody understands this, but part of the rationale for his suicide was that by dying in office, he preserved his pension for his family. They were taken care of financially. You can see how important that would have been to an old-school republican man like Budd.

Poor son of a bitch believed in America.

Oddly enough, this really makes me miss Pennsylvania.

I've had a very deep suspicion for a few years now that I know one of his relatives. All the snippets of half-heard story, the refusal to discuss certain people, and, most importantly, the last name "Dwyer" and being from Pittsburgh. One of these days I'll confront him on it.

I notice that people on TV are pretty quick and decisive. Is that just because they're on TV and it's a now or never kind of thing, or is that really how it normally is? Is it normal to take hours and hours before working up the courage to do it?
