One of my favorite things about the advent of torrents and the ever-plummeting cost of HDD space is that I have pretty much all the MST3K that I'll ever need on my hard drive now.

Kabbage - 2012-09-23

Yeah, back in the day (2005) I had to buy all of these episodes from a dude on my forums in like 25 separate DVDs.

It was 60 and obviously it was one of the better purchases I ever made, but still. MST3K in its entirety is but a click away these days.

A while back I saw a live show of Cinematic Titanic (original MST cast riffing bad movies) and there was this exchange as a character scampered up a craggy embankment.

Trace Beaulieu: "Hey, Joel. Rock climbing."
*riotous applause and cheers*
Joel Hodgson: "Hey, Trace. Pandering."

Neither Cinematic Titanic nor Rifftrax have done much for me. I guess the natural progression from having eight writers in a room to 2 or 3 just cuts down the funny by a similar proportion.

Kabbage - 2012-09-23

It's not as good, no. I've enjoyed Cinematic Titanic's "The Alien Factor" quite a bit. That's worth a watch, definitely. (it's one of their live ones)

For Rifftrax, get "Jack the Giant Slayer". Saw that one live and it was really something special.

THE movie to watch if guys awkwardly clambering over the same fake mountain sets is your thing.

Wonko the Sane - 2012-09-21

MST3K does a great job at presenting us obscure crap movies that we would never know of otherwise.

Their garbage inane chatter ruins gems they dug up.

TimidAres - 2012-09-21

-1 star for reminding me that these guys totally ruined Denmark's "The Sword and the Dragon" for me.

Millard - 2012-09-21

you are terrible

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-09-21

"Gems?" What are these "gems" of which you speak? I can't say I recall any of the films they poked fun at being particularly good, unless you liked bad movies or followed the career of a particular director like Ed Wood.

And it's not like they made their version the only copy of the movie in existence. No need to have such a large stick up your ass about it.

Chocolate Jesus - 2012-09-21

You stepped in it now, boy.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-09-21

trololooooo

dementomstie - 2012-09-21

Yeah, MST3K totally ruined classics like "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" and "The Day The Earth Froze". And they mocked "Mr. B Natural" so much that it completely lost all the educational content it contained. "MANOS: Hands of Fate", "Mitchell", "Merlin's Shop Of Magical Wonders", "Eegah!", "Beginning of the End", "Teenage Caveman", "Final Sacrifice" all of them ruined and completely forgotten because of the merciless mocking that they received from the heartless writers. It's not like they helped encourage an entire generation to watch bad movies for the sheer enjoyment. Gems like "The Incredible Creatures That Stopped Living and Became Crazy Mixed Up Zombies" FOREVER TARNISHED!

memedumpster - 2012-09-21

There was a movie they did where I actually wanted them to shut up for a while. Planet of the Vampires. It's one I'd watch without them as well as with them. I thought it was a rather good movie.

Not that Wonko isn't completely wrong and once again hating on something great for no reason other than the Internet makes us stupid, mind you!

Innocent Bystander - 2012-09-21

Just die.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-09-22

I did have one friend who hated MST3K, but he was born during the time a lot of these movies were made and thought it was unfair to poke fun because these were the Avatar of their day. He was especially upset at the episode that used the Gene Hackman/Gregory Peck film "Marooned," which I guess was his generation's "Apollo 13."

Wonko the Sane - 2012-09-23

WHOOOOOSH

THERE'S A WHOLE OTHER MOUNTAIN UP HERE!

BHWW - 2012-09-21

Though everyone remembers "rock climbing" I seem to have to jog peoples' memories of the Mads' followup from Hercules Against the Moon Men - "saaaaaaaaandstorm" which does for actors wandering around phony sandstorms what this movie did for guys crawling up a fake mountain i.e. scenes that seem to go on endlessly.

Rudy - 2012-09-21

Oddly enough, the only MST3K I can't watch any more is "Castle of Fu Manchu" which succeeds at being the most boring thing I've ever seen without the help of rock climbing, sandstorms, low-speed chases or any of the other types of filler. "Monster A-Go-Go" comes in a close second.

StanleyPain - 2012-09-21

Invasion of the Neptune Men comes close with it's agonizing 20+ minute finale of nothing but ships flying around blowing up stock footage of old buildings.

And let's not forget Radar Secret Service with its "Hypno Helio Static Stasis" of guys driving around for the last 20 minutes or so followed by a copter doing absolutely nothing.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-09-22

The movie that has the most nothing in it is "Starfighters." It's a kind of "Top Gun" type movie but with no plot, nothing happens, and I think some kid makes his dad proud by joining this fighter aircraft military program.
