Hugo Gorilla - 2012-06-06
Since when is Zangief a bad guy?
Cena_mark - 2012-06-06 Since he was born in Russia and became a Russian.
Prickly Pete - 2012-06-06 Seconded. I don't think he's a bad guy, but I'm not gonna take the 10 seconds to Google it and find out so Disney wins this round.
Killer Joe - 2012-06-06 Zangief is Red Cyclone! He fight to end Shadowlaw's Buddha laser! Bitches cry at Final Atomic Buster! Glasnost? Perestroika? Da. Whatever you need for sleeping. But Zangief is bad?
Zangief is badass.
Is close enough.

Squeamish - 2012-06-06
I want to like it, but it seems a little soulless - like Cars, Cars 2, or the other crappy Dreamworks movies.
Old_Zircon - 2012-06-06 Like every Disney movie since WWII.
Except The Straight Story and Dayby O'Gill & the Little People.
Cena_mark - 2012-06-06 Old Durrrrr con, you're forgetting Disney's second golden age.
deadpan - 2012-06-06
I too remember video game, featuring character.
Blue - 2012-06-06
I hope he has a horrifying backstory like Donkey Kong or the elf in Centipede.
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-06-06 Does that make Koopa a representation of the wealthy, stealing away even the joy of love and/or sex from the blue collar working man?
Blue - 2012-06-06 Jumpman abused Donkey Kong. That's why Donkey Kong is so mad.
Centipede's is worse. A wizard uses magic to turn an elf's friends on him. They become violent and he is forced to murder them with his magic wand that turns things into mushrooms.

THAT'S NOT HOW VIDEO GAMES WORK!
It's the same Tron and computers shit all over again!
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-06-06 Other than in rendering CGI in movies, when do computer and/or video games EVER work realistically in Hollywood?
Wargames managed voice synthesis over a 300baud modem, after all.
I figure this kind of thing will only worsen as the GUI interface divorces us more and more from how computers operate, turning them into magic items that grant wishes or punish you for not performing the proper rituals.
themilkshark - 2012-06-07 TOY STORY ISN'T HOW TOYS WORK EITHER! MOVIES ARE MAKING US DUMMER!
WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-06-06
5 stars just for the fact that over the course of my life I've gone from nobody recognizing my home-made Mario costume when I was a kid to Disney making a movie about videogames.
Shoebox Joe - 2012-06-06
Jesus Christ, I don't know what to think about this. They got Talking Heads, Skrilles, and up front references of old and new. I think they're trying to create an apocolyptic scenario at the theatres as the old nerds become resentful of the nerdlings.
I'm gonna sit on the bench at opening night and wait for the clawings to commence.
themilkshark - 2012-06-07 Old nerds feeling resentful is not a sign of the apocalypse. It's regular life.
Shoebox Joe - 2012-06-07 True, but these are theatres full. In a way I may have overlooked the lack of physical violence, but the amount of steam could bring down hundreds of theatres as a mold epidemic ensues.
blood_visions - 2012-06-06
I kinda hate that I so want to like this
Ursa_minor - 2012-06-06
I like this but I have that terrible feeling that they screwed it up. There is so much comedy in the idea of game jumping and working within certain games hilarious logic systems, but I doubt they will pay attention to that.
memedumpster - 2012-06-06
My first reaction to this was "I should have seen Avatar in the theater so I could have a memory of when movies were better."
Time to eat a bullet.
NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-06-06
I spent the entire trailer wondering why they had the balding zombie model from House of the Dead holding two axes, when the axe zombie model was a blonde haired and wearing a lumberjack shirt. This existential crisis over my useless vidya gaem knowledge was interrupted only by my wincing at the q-bert joke.
This movie is going to be a dull lump blunted by innumerable script "re-tunings."
Cratovic - 2012-06-08 Actually, the zombie they're using does hold two axes. It's known as Cyril and appears in the first House of the Dead. The one you're thinking of is Johnny from House of the Dead 2.
NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-06-08 this is normally where I'd mock you for knowing the zombie names from house of the dead, but I appreciate the correction.
NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-06-08 also upon looking this up, apparently the rhino dude was the final boss from altered beast, though I don't feel bad for missing that because fuck altered beast
deadpan - 2012-06-06
Still, I am looking forward to the angry Youtube rants this movie will inspire.
Not looking forward to the slash fanfiction so much.
Chalkdust - 2012-06-06
I would like to just chime in and say this is being directed by Rich Moore, who helmed some of the all-time classic Simpsons episodes, including "Flaming Moe's", "A Streetcar Named Marge", "The Front" (where Bart and Lisa write Itchy & Scratchy episodes), and perhaps the greatest episode of all time, "Marge vs. the Monorail".

Redford - 2012-06-07
I predict an 172% chance of a promotional flash/tablet tie-in game where you actually play Wreck-It Ralph.
themilkshark - 2012-06-07 That would be awesome, just like this movie is going to be.
Change - 2012-06-07
I am also very angry that video game nerds have bred and need to entertain children.
dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-06-07
I feel incredibly weirded out to see Zangief, Bowser, and other actual video game characters in a Disney movie.
themilkshark - 2012-06-10 Zangief and Bowser are more memorable and beloved than 98% of Disney's original character creations from 1995-present.
Caminante Nocturno - 2012-06-12
Another metaphor for midlife crisis.
