I've had arguments about this with Asian Americans who say it is based on class and not race (as if this somehow forgives it to some degree), or that it is not truly "Asian racism" because it has been adopted from Western concepts of race and from Western media. Cold comfort.

When I was 15 my brother married a Filipina woman, they're still married with some great (and intimidatingly beautiful) kids. I attended the wedding in the PI, and the girl who was to walk down the aisle with me behind the bride and groom broke down into tears because my white skin made her look dark, and she was embarrassed. She was one of the prettiest girls I'd ever seen in my life, and it was one of those universe destroying experiences that I still think about all the time.

I mostly shared this because of a girl back in highschool I use to chase even though she was way out of my league (which meant that my line usually was "Hey, I know you're way out of my league, but how about a movie sometime?").
