Poor Mike. This was a tough one to sit through.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-04-14

Yes, and no. Believe me, I was as fanatical as any MiSTY back in the day, but I was also an English major, and this is one of my favorites. The great jokes, when they come, are classics, because they're great jokes about a familiar classic. I'll bet I'm not the only one in here who has parts of Hamlet memorized. ( And I'm not talking about THAT part!)

"Speak. I'll go no further."

"That's not what I heard." Seriously, i thought I'd piss myself.

During the average episode, half the jokes are there to keep up the pace. The bad jokes always fall flat, but during Shakespeare, they fall flatter than during the Beast of Yucca Flats. There's no doubt.

Anyway, I'm really glad they took this on. If you can't make it all the way through, skip to the talking Hamlet Action figure at the end.

"Go on Ham, kick his ass!"

"Move thine ass."

"Yaay! Garrison Keillor's leaving Denmark!"

"Tonight I'm gonna unleash the Great Dane."

might look for him...in the other place.
"H-E-double-toothpicks!"

"I'm goin' over to Lady Macbeth's!"

"Hey Hamlet, why don't you RAM-let?"
"Shut up, Claudi-ASS."

This was one of two MST3K episodes I could not make it through when it originally aired.

To die.................................................to sleep......................................

FABIO - 2012-04-14

Mine was Girl in the Gold Boots.

Aelric - 2012-04-14

This and The Starfighters. I used to have a competition with my roommate to see if we could find a movie to show the other that would make each others head explode. While researching movies, I saw The Starfighters in MST3K form and could barely make it through with Mike and the bots supporting me. So of course I tracked down the UNEDITED cut of it to actually show him.

It took days picking brains out of the carpet.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-04-14

I showed the Red Zone Cuba episode to a friend. After we finished watching it, he told me never to mention the movie to him again.

garcet71283 - 2012-04-14

Girl in the Golden Boots was the other one...

memedumpster - 2012-04-14

Starfighters is the worst. There is no way I could ever sit through that without MST3K.

Jack Dalton - 2012-04-14

Skydivers-- in fact, any film by Coleman Francis.

FABIO - 2012-04-14

Now that I think about it, Girl in the Gold boots and Overdrawn at the Memory Bank. I think there were a lot of good jokes in there, but the movies were SO BAD.

Overdrawn just kept going. It was like watching the drawn out parts of 2001 without Kubrick's talent.

FABIO - 2012-04-14

and Netflix Instant also has both the MST3k and original version of Warrior of the Lost World. It is surrealy torturous to watch it without the bots.

Whaaaa ... ? I will never understand how anyone could have trouble with "Girl in Gold Boots". Sure there's a thin layer of oil on everything in the film, but once you get past that, it moves along nicely, and the characters advance the plot through their established traits. There is actual storytelling competence at work here, more than you will find in a lot of major motion pictures.

Michelle is established early on as naive and incapable of resisting the advances of an oily snake, even one she can see through. Buzz is a violent, impulsive petty criminal. And Critter starts out as a drifter of little earthly use, but it's also established that he has a lot of potential if he would only learn responsibility. Relocate them to LA and put them under the thumb of Judy Garland's gay husband (the nightclub owner / crime boss), and the plot unfolds naturally. Shit, I can't believe I'm heaping praise on "Girl in Gold Boots", but it honestly does a lot of things well.

StanleyPain - 2012-04-13

Yeah, this is a rough one. It just doesn't support good riffing, being Shakespeare and all. But, still...MST3k. And they do an admirable job.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-04-14

I wish I had seen this in high school. I'd not have fancied myself smarter than everyone else for understanding Shakespeare at such a young age.

Yeeeeeeeeesh this is painful, even for MST3K.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-04-14

Back in the day, I had a huge drawer filled with tapes. I liked to play them at bedtime, and I had an old cat who would come and get in bed with me when she heard the theme song.

At last, somebody is posting complete episodes on YOUTUBE! I don't know about anyone else, but I'll be submitting. I'll do my best not to flood the hopper.

FABIO - 2012-04-14

There's about ten billion episodes on Netflix Instant.

memedumpster - 2012-04-14

Personal experience has shown me that you can watch 188 full episodes between YouTube and Google Video. The ones missing (or in broken up clip parts) are most of the Gamera episodes.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2012-04-15

Yeah, I was one of the guys who kept recording episodes. Back when there was just the hardcore following and other people just didn't see the appeal. Christ, I sound like a strawman hipster.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-04-14

For a long time, I've been able to find anything I wanted in broken up episodes, but I haven't seen this many full episodes before.

I am Linux...no netflix for me!
