Um, I don't think the ad is about domestic violence. I think its about fucking.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-02-27

It is. And honestly watching all the carnivores respond to the body of evidence linking meat-eating to impotence with lazy rationalizations about how vegetarians are all a bunch of limp-dicked pussies because they don't get enough testosterone from veggies is way funnier than anything PETA does.

Jericho - 2012-02-27

haha you're really naive

Urkel Forever - 2012-02-27

Uh, the joke is supposed to be that it makes you think it is about domestic violence but it turns out to be about fucking. Humor just isn't quite something that PETA, or for that matter most PETA supporters, understand.

spikestoyiu - 2012-02-27

How are the omnivores responding?

Gmork - 2012-02-27

Us omnivores are also calling the vegans stupid pussies, because they are.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-02-27

I have something to add a little protein to her diet, but she might get all uppity and call it an animal product.

Also, ambivalent omnivore here. I don't have Opinions about what people choose to not eat.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2012-02-27

According to wiki, it's mostly carbohydrates and not protein.

Gmork - 2012-02-27

You almost made me feel bad, SUGAH, then I remembered what the majority of vegans are like in normal interaction/conversation (where I live, anyways). They're especially vocal in Oakland. Most of them tend to be squatters, also.

I remember one day passing by the Bay Street shopping center in Emeryville (basically still in oakland) and seeing a really loud opinionated pro-vegan anti-meat t-shirt on this guy. As I walked by, I half-heartedly rolled my eyes, and he full-on confronted me and said "Whats so funny, bro? Whats so funny, bro?", in a very hyper and obviously "defending my whole ideology" kind of way.

Seriously, not a word spoken by me, and for all he knew I could have been looking at one of the many people that were right next to him walking on the sidewalk. He was so pathetically eager. I just laughed at him and kept walking.

Gmork - 2012-02-27

God, hyphens make me horny.

pathetique - 2012-02-28

I would like to point out that all vegans seem like assholes because the only ones being overly vocal about it are being assholes.

(Not an omnivore, so I'm admittedly biased, but I'm no vegan either)

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-02-27

Holy fuck this is evil. What horrible false advertising.

MongoMcMichael - 2012-02-27

PETA *and* veganism? Is there a way I can give this thing ten stars for evil?

Hooker - 2012-02-27

I've never sworn off certain foods or anything, but why is veganism evil?

BillLumbergh - 2012-02-27

I also would like to know

Adham Nu'man - 2012-02-27

If you are eating vegan, you are eating with Hitler.

Fezren - 2012-02-27

Well, aside from the fact that, despite many claims by biased sources, there is no reliable vegan form of vitamin b12 (cobalamin), which is an essential vitamin found in animal protein that is linked with brain and nervous system function, it is also certainly not healthy for anyone to just up and "go vegan". Ad campaigns that encourage this are certainly evil in my opinion.

There are many factors that make up an individual's digestive system and metabolism. Factors like race, age, and previous diet can drastically alter an individuals ability to absorb all the protein, vitamins, and minerals that a body needs to stay healthy. Many people attempting to make a quick switch to veganism find themselves becoming sick and malnourished; literally starving. At the very least, an ad campaign encouraging veganism should have to include a warning to see a doctor before drastically changing your diet.

Also I disagree with the core principles of pure veganism on a personal level. If you want to eat for health, go Ovo-lacto Vegetarian. Veganism has more to do with the cruelty aspect of meat and animal products.

Hooker - 2012-02-28

It's a leap to go from that to evil. PETA is obvious sensational, but PETA and many individual vegans want more people to convert to it because eating meat _is_ cruelty to animals, so their motives are far from evil. To make the claim that a vegan lifestyle isn't perfectly healthy and that there can be health risks and vegans don't constantly point that out is pretty thin to throw around a term as strong as evil. I would put that around "misleading" or "dangerous" at best. Calling something well intentioned that doesn't constantly remind people of everything that undercuts their argument evil just makes you look hysterical and dismissable.

MongoMcMichael - 2012-02-28

With all due respect, please knock it off with the 'cruelty to animals' malarky. Humans are animals. Animals eat animals. It makes no sense to promote a lifestyle that isn't perfectly healthy in the face of our omnivorous evolutionary adaptation.

Furthermore, the evil vegans who produced this evil commercial are claiming that their not perfectly healthy practices will give you a ramrod chubby. It's like an Axe commercial, but more insulting.

Fezren - 2012-02-28

I don't think it's a leap at all to call broad vegan advocacy evil. Any other diet plan you would see an advertisement for would have a warning containing at least the recommendation to consult your doctor before moving forward.

Good intentions has nothing to do with it. If you don't think evil can be done even with the best of intentions you're incredibly naive. However slim the chances, people can and have died from switching to a vegan diet. Children and people with compromised immune systems are especially vulnerable.

Veganism can be an extreme change to a person's diet, and I don't give a fuck what reason PETA has for pushing that agenda, it's evil to not address these issues if they are going to advocate it.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-02-28

Animals also enslave other animals. Nature does a terrible job of being humane, so let's do better. If we ate less meat (or, god forbid, more fish), less animals would have to get shit on from cages stacked above them.

Some studies say the avg. vegetarian has lower blood pressure, which could mean that fewer have ED. It doesn't follow directly that vegans have better sex, but neither is that completely off-base. Given that the B-12 thing is common knowledge now, and ketchup is considered a vegetable in this country, I can't call this irresponsible.

What bugs me instead is the barrage of "xyz shitty junk food is approved by the american heart association because WHOLE GRAINS (plus we paid them)!"

pastorofmuppets - 2012-02-28

(that was meant more as a reply to MMM but either way I guess)

Hooker - 2012-02-28

I didn't say that good intentions makes something not evil, and that you thought I did is pretty disheartening to the idea of having a rational conversation on this. I guess I have a narrower range for the word "evil"; it doesn't encompass someone being sensational about something that isn't a bad thing.

pastor already touched on this, but holy fuck do I hate appeals to nature. Animals (NON-HUMAN, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS OBVIOUS) also shit where they please, rape, sleep outside, leave their dead to rot, etc. I don't look to them for dietary advice.

BillLumbergh - 2012-02-29

"However slim the chances, people can and have died from switching to a vegan diet."

this can be avoided by being aware of what you put in your mouth. today there are supplements and fortified foods readily available in stores.

also what are your thoughts on deaths directly related to meat eating? you know, high cholesterol and heart disease. since animal cruelty is not a legitime argument to you, do you consider meat eating evil on these grounds?

Syd Midnight - 2012-03-02

So... evil is bad, and doing bad things is evil, and those things are bad, and eating meat is evil. Therefore meat eaters are evil, therefore eating meat does bad things to evil people as a result of their evil, therefore eating meat results in less evil, therefore eating meat is not evil.

So there.

BillLumbergh - 2012-03-10

what the fuck are you on about.

Syd Midnight - 2013-03-07

I think of myself as a primary Decomposer, rather than Vegan etc. I don't think we have a group you can join, and if we had an animal calendar it would be mostly worms and bugs. But there's not a lot of rules to follow besides "eat dead stuff", "fart", and "shit".

That guy - 2012-02-27

PETA has just fallen off of the political spectrum.

godot - 2012-02-27

Its difficult to find a non-PETA vegan website with anything positive to say about PETA.

That said, they don't particularly care if you love them or hate them, so long as you look at their message.

Monkey Napoleon - 2012-02-27

Their message is shitty and that's why people hate them.

That guy - 2012-02-29

Their message seems to be that women love to be savagely fucked past the point of their neck and hips being damaged, so if you want to send them to the heights of ecstasy, into sexual slavery for you, and on repeated trips to the emergency room, then something something something about what you eat.

Pillager - 2012-02-27

I'm not sure how they could have made a worse ad.

However, Peta WILL top this one...

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-02-27

The idea that there's no such thing as bad publicity only works if people don't respect or take you seriously in the first place.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-02-27

http://www.plan59.com/images/JPGs/meat46txt.jpg

I'm with TSR. I have too many hippie friends to not be cool with veganism. Meat is delicious, but westerners eat more meat than is healthy or responsible.

Hopefully I won't be called a conspiracy nut for invoking Senator McGovern:
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/06/the-wisdom-of- george-mcgovern/

deadpan - 2012-02-27

Genuinely curious if any women were involved in the writing and production of this mess.

Five stars for being evil in ways PETA people probably don't even comprehend.

Gommorrah - 2012-02-27

PETA is a force for good because of its unabashed and unceasing movement of the Overton Window further and further to create a larger playground for less radical ideas on animal rights to be accepted. I know that this may be a confusing concept for simpering liberals who pride themselves on their centrism, but it is a concept that has been proven to be extremely effective for the Republican party for three decades.

Black Napkins - 2012-02-28

The overton window can be broken. If the outlier group is suitably insane, the field will be acknowledged as enlarged, but the moderate thinkers nominally on the side of the outlier group will be painted with the same crazy brush and suitably discarded.

Just ask Lyndon LaRouche.

But you used a buzzword that Glenn Beck likes, so hooray for you.

GravidWithHate - 2012-02-28

The overton window trick requires someone to take the crazy ideas seriously enough to make it one of the boundaries of reasonable discourse.

The reason why the right is so good at it is that they have a legion of scrivening whores who'se job it is to mainstream crazy right wing ideas. PETA has the crazy, they don't have the media machine to get it taken seriously.

Void 71 - 2012-02-27

God, I love the responses that a PETA video generates. I don't even need to watch the video to be entertained.

Blue - 2012-02-27

How many fucking puppies do you have to kill before your fake animal rights organization loses credibility? It's a fucking scam, they say retarded shit because advertising is free if you do it as the subject of the article. Jesus fucking Christ it is retarded you people are discussing this like we didn't find those trashbags. Fuck all of you, you're why these assholes are still in business.

Oh, and the reason she broke her neck is because her boyfriend was able to fuck her with much more force. Having tried a vegetarian diet I can tell you, it's the lentil farts. You don't even have to exert yourself when rollerblading, you just zip along on the force from your flatulence.

The Mothership - 2012-02-28

woah; people still rollerblade?

memedumpster - 2012-02-28

Stupid mammal supremacists. Plants fought just as hard to conquer the surface of the earth as animals. Just because it doesn't look like us with big brown eyes and pain noises doesn't mean it's okay to prey on it.

Vegans must horrify aliens.

Spastic Avenger - 2012-02-28

A creature with a nervous system automatically has a 'get out of jail free' card, even though plants have their own stress responses to being eaten. That's how these people have decided it's cruel to kill and eat things that can feel 'our' kind of pain (even though it is mainly an ((albeit reasonable)) assumption that pain is universally similar), but not things that experience predation in different ways.

I wonder how these people would feel about eating sea squirts.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-02-28

HI GUISE I LOVE PETA SPECIALLY WITH HUMMUS AND OLVES AND SZHIT THE VIDEO IS FUNNY CAUSE THE GUY ATE PETA AND THEN HE WAS ALL FUCKING HER LIKE A STALLION AND STUFF. K PEACE OUT

Koda Maja - 2012-02-28

I've only ever dated one vegan, and she fucked like a ragdoll.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-02-28

Dear PETA, stop giving a shit about whether I choose to eat meat or not.

Dear Hunters, stop giving a shit about whether I choose to eat meat or not.

Kindly,
A Friendly Omnivore

Blue - 2012-02-28

PETA doesn't fucking care. Why are you so stupid? Why do you take them at their fucking word? It's like trying to explain to people why they shouldn't hire Pogo the Clown for a birthday party. They found dead kids in his crawlspace and determined that he murdered them. I don't know the fuck why, it doesn't matter. There's no explanation that's going to make a crawlspace full of dead children make fucking sense. That's the point at which we stop talking about Pogo the Clown as a goddamn birthday party option and start talking about him as a serial killer.

Jesus Fucking Christ. What the fuck is wrong with you people? What part of they admitted in court to adopting healthy animals and putting them down don't you fucking get? They say that animals are people. I didn't hear about any toddlers turning up in the sacks of corpses they dropped in the dumpsters behind the Piggly Wiggly.

Just because they run ads that convince people they're the fucking ASPCA doesn't mean you have to believe them or perpetrate that scam on other people.

Enjoy - 2012-02-28

WTF IS UP WITH PETA? - Skweezy

Rafiki - 2012-02-28

"I didn't hear about any toddlers turning up in the sacks of corpses they dropped in the dumpsters behind the Piggly Wiggly."

good........good....

OxygenThief - 2013-02-27

Ironically this commercial killed three rabbits during the testing phase.

ashtar. - 2013-02-27

I always wonder what would happen to all the species of domesticated animals if everyone became vegan. It's not like cows are going to survive in the wild once we stop raising them. How come you support cow genocide, PETA?

BorrowedSolution - 2013-12-13

I know I'm a little late to the fag-dance but here we go.

I'm against wanton cruelty to animals, sure. Not for their sake, but because encouraging cruelty is a bad thing for society. I do not, however, consider killing animals for food to be categorically cruel. Farm-factory meats are inherently cruel for the way that the animals are treated leading up to their eventual death, but I've never seen any proof that lower animals are capable of contemplating their own mortality. And there's the sticking point for me; if it lacks the higher mind functions to understand that THIS IS IT, game over, do not pass Go, then killing it (humanely) just doesn't seem to be cruelty. The fear that a cow or sheep faces on it's way to the slaughter-house floor doesn't issue from the fact that they know what's about to happen; it issues from the fact that it's a strange, bloody-smelling place.

Death happens. The majority of the animals we raise for slaughter would never have been born were it not for our actions, but if we let them all go today they'd still end up dead eventually. The assertion that we 'ought to do better' is hilarious because it seems to come with the presumption that we know better than the great mechanisms of life that have supported us so far.

delores_showboat - 2014-02-27

I once went out with an alcoholic vegan (also a narcoleptic) and he definitely couldn't fuck like that. Luckily that was a short term relationship.
