The opportunity to control a rail network and make trains arrive on time is a heady thrill to us Brits.

I know a guy who retired as a rail conductor. It really isn't that glamorous of a job. He told me stories about being in the middle of nowhere, hitting livestock, having to stop the train(which took a mile), check the train out, walk all the way BACK to where the livestock was hit, report it if he could find the owner, and walk all the way back and hope he didn't get blood and guts all over him as he cleared the track for the next train.

He also knew of conductors who in the process of having to stop a train and check it out for other reasons stepped on god knows what metal things fell off of other trains and get infected cuts on their feet that took months to heal.

Then you've got the stories about other conductors being in trains that were derailed or collided with other trains because the other conductor was drunk or half asleep, or was given an incorrect weight for his train so he had no idea how much more time he needed to stop the thing.

Or being in weather so bad that you can't see far enough ahead of you to know when to stop (your visibility can sometimes be an eighth or less of the amount of distance you need to stop), or seeing problems on the track or a flooded track and not being able to avoid it.

I don't think those will be on the simulator.

WHY is there a market for this???

The cosplayers and fan fic writters of the train simulator community have something to look foward.

StanleyPain - 2012-01-30

Isn't this the game where all of the DLC combined costs 00?

Cyberblah - 2012-01-30

Oh shit, yeah. Steam lists 59.12 of DLC available:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/24010/

Subtracting out the savings for what's available in packs still leaves you with 56.17 of DLC.

Rudy - 2012-01-30

"I remember when my dad took me to see a train for the first time. It took exactly six minutes and forty-two seconds to reach our location and then took exactly eighteen minutes and six seconds to pass by us. After we watched it pass, we walked the fifty-two steps back to the car and then drove twelve point two miles to the..."
