You complaint would make more sense with regards to 3d and other boondoggles, not so much for the "found footage" stuff. The benefit to paranormal activity and alloi 18 is all they have to buy is one set, a few no-name actors and a marketing budget, boom, movie for super cheap. annualize it and it'll pay for three other movies of significantly larger budget.
