It's not really a question of being real... Most of that stuff, as I found out, is all gray area. The gangsters hang out with the police and the old people... Bookies would come in, they all knew each other. I was friends with Sol Bonana's nephew in Brooklyn before he died (seriously), and he took me around to some very creepy places.

Same thing happens in the Seattle area, EVERYBODY has a Ted Bundy/Gary Ridgeway story.

baleen - 2011-09-25

It's weird, I went to Evergreen for a while. Bundy killed a girl behind the library there, and my parents, who lived in Miami, knew the last girl he killed because she lived on their block. He really got around.

I work in Tumwater, he picked up a girl on the corner outside. Dude was bizzay.

I love you guys.

I lived in Tumwater! I can't even remember the street... It was next to a giant grocery store. It was kinda rural then, I'm sure it's gotten a lot more developed by now.

I used to live in Olympia and Lacey and I was a permagreener for 8 years and all I got was this impotent comment about how I don't have a Gary Ridgeway story.

MEGA FOODS.

It closed last year.

HotwaxNinjaPanther - 2011-09-26

It doesn't surprise me that a number of us have either lived near or attended that school at some point.

Aelric - 2011-09-26

It's been established for a few years the there is an Olympia/Evergreen collective here at PoETV, and I'd say a majority of Washington residents at one time, if not still.

Aelric - 2011-09-26

Oh, and baleen, last I saw Tumwater, it was fairly suburban with a tiny town center around Cattan's/Taco Bell, but mostly is still fairly rural.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-09-26

Cattin's is gone, Mega Foods is gone, Wal-Mart is installed. Typical story.

I gotta say I was disappointed with this series. It wasn't bad, exactly, but got less interesting as it went on and I could never be be bothered to actually finish it.

Fry is always so curious yet charmingly polite, and it loses some appeal when the exotic culture he's exploring is the one you already live in.

They could pair him with a sidekick whose thoughtless stream-of-conciousness comments often create tension and lead to confrontations, forcing Fry to choose between trying to charismatically defuse the situation or abandoning his partner and a cameraman to their fate at the hands of some angry drunken Okies or Red Sox fans or something.
