I imagine they were trying to avoid a profanity singularity.

Still, it's not like "Family Guy" is wholly original; it was a rip-off of The Simpsons with a lot of Bloom County thrown in, giving us yet another "dumb dad with dumb family" show with cut-away gags. Then Macfarlane rips himself off over and over with pretty much every show he "creates." But the worst thing about "Family Guy" is pretty much its cast. If Macfarlane just made animated sketch comedy and left Peter and his family out of it, he'd have a halfway decent show.

Xenocide - 2011-09-20

No, we wouldn't. We'd have half an hour of celebrities projectile vomiting and identical recreations of long scenes from 80's movies with one minor difference (HEY WHAT IF EVERYONE IN ROCKY IV WAS A SMURF.)

Seth can't make a sketch show because it would make it even more obvious how much of a one-trick pony he is.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-09-20

American Dad is pretty great, and I happily admit to watching and enjoying it. The key to American Dad's success is that Seth has zero involvement in writing and basically just shows up, does his voices, collects his check, and leaves.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-09-21

American Dad is terrible and you should feel terrible.

Cube - 2011-09-20

This, like many cartoons these days, begs the question:

who the hell is this made for?

spikestoyiu - 2011-09-20

Canadians.

Change - 2011-09-20

This was made because of American demand for 18+ children's entertainment.

We can only blame ourselves.

EvilHomer - 2011-09-20

It's better than The Cleveland Show.

StanleyPain - 2011-09-20

Wow.....

Simillion - 2011-09-20

I lasted until 1:00.

takewithfood - 2011-09-20

That's 7 seconds more than I could handle. Good lord.

StanleyPain - 2011-09-20

I put it on in the background and watched about half the episode. I have seen so much Family Guy and American Dad it's not even funny...I used to work at a store where we got to put shit on and watch it while we worked and everyone I worked with loved those two shows (plus a lot of other crap). So, I have sort of a built up tolerance to this kind of shit. Once you watch/hear enough of it, it's amazing how rote and generic it becomes...you can practically time an episode by the progression jokes and references and characters doing X thing. If this were a parody, it would be one of the most brilliant parodies ever created, but alas it isn't, which leads us into some weird cul de sac of Poe's Law for shitty cartoons or something.

spikestoyiu - 2011-09-20

Embarrassing confession: I frequently find jokes in "American Dad" funny.

dead_cat - 2011-09-20

I watched the whole thing, while on hold. In the end, it lost big to elevator music.

Meerkat - 2011-09-20

40 seconds was quite enough thank you.

The Mothership - 2011-09-20

Not funny. not funny at all.

Triggerbaby - 2011-09-20

Ow my standards!

RocketBlender - 2011-09-20

I was at gamestop not too long ago, and there was a bit on their internal TV network that looked just like that "Seth McFarlan" kind of animation.

Between that and this, I'm wondering: is there like some program out there now to do "Family Guy" style shows really easily? Are we going to see more of this kind of shit?

Void 71 - 2011-09-20

Animation like this is really easy to do on a computer. Notice how the characters are always shown from a 3/4 perspective? They literally drew each character once and pasted different eyeballs and stuff on it to show emotion. They animate the body and limbs by dragging them around on a pivot point. South Park was one of the first cartoons to do this and its only gotten easier with time.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-09-20

So it's CAD, the animated series.

Xenocide - 2011-09-20

You'd think that if they were going to copy the terrible writing style, they would at least switch up the ugly art style. Nope. Not even trying, are we, guys?

Spit Spingola - 2011-09-20

People obviously watch Family Guy for the great artwork.

kwash - 2011-09-21

It's like it was animated by the Family Guy people, and written by the Crtl+Alt+Del guy.

Timothy A. Bear - 2011-09-20

After they crash into the canyon this enters the wormhole of fail and becomes awesome.

kingofthenothing - 2011-09-21

Perhaps you see the world with a much different lens. I tried. Ten minutes was the limit of my endurance.

Pompoulus - 2011-09-20

The telemarketer airhorn thing is stale as yesterday's donut.

Cena_mark - 2011-09-20

"Ow my spleen!" What is this a 1990s Fox Kids cartoon?

Macho Nacho - 2011-09-21

Terrah-fucking-awful.

dead_cat - 2011-09-21

If the highway safety people put up a sign to warn drivers, they know the canyon's there. It's just that they saw what lives down there and decided human society would be improved by leaving them to die.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-09-21

How could someone produce something like this with a caring omniscient god in the universe? Ever think of that?

memedumpster - 2011-09-21

I watched three minutes because I thought all of the above comments were hyperbole.

Don't make my mistake.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-09-24

I watched 16 minutes. I feel like a fucking hero.
