I feel like vomiting.

memedumpster - 2011-07-18

Oh, Albion, still making us feel good about America after all these years.

Why does quitting the job you committed gross horrific crimes in automatically make you exempt from being charged with these crimes?

Hooker - 2011-07-18

Is that a hypothetical question? Because it doesn't.

Dinanukht - 2011-07-18

"Police say the death is unexplained, but is not suspicious."

"The police told us best leave it... y'know.... unsolved..." - Nigel Tufnel

CornOnTheCabre - 2011-07-18

I think they mean to say that, given the circumstances, it'd be suspicious if this person WASN'T murdered

Burnov - 2011-07-18

Without getting into too much detail, why is it people always scoff at implied corruption or "conspiracies" as they like to pejoratively dismiss them. However will get a huge boner for the ones that are so ubiquitous and sloppily carried out that even brain damaged chimpanzee could identify it?

This does not surprise me one bit, however I kind of laugh at the ridiculous implication in the tags that somehow its the "big bad conservatives" who are at fault and not simply people with more power than they can judiciously wield.

I mean Rupert Murdoch is known for having supported the Australian labour party. As far as I know he also has some leftist publications under his name in the U.K as well.

I seriously can't believe people are so fucking ignorant as to believe you can identify corruption based solely on political ideology. You have to be pretty screwed in the head to engage in that sort of confirmation bias.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2011-07-18

Rupert Murdoch would cut off a newborn baby's head and devour it on the Buckingham Palace lawn if doing so would make him more powerful

baleen - 2011-07-18

Maybe I wasn't identifying it along political ideology, maybe I was reveling in the fact that people I hate are being damaged.

Also, laughter at Murdoch's completely genuine concern for labour.

Hooker - 2011-07-18

You got all that from "murder, rupert murdoch, news corp"? I'm impressed.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2011-07-18

Can the crown step in and behead these fuckers?

Sudan no1 - 2011-07-18

YES. There has to be some old law on the books where these scumbags end up with their heads on spikes.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-07-18

So a key informant was shot dead, with no explanation, and those aren't suspicious circumstances? I assume they mean it's a suicide, but can't confirm it yet. I notice the stories quote neighbors saying he was paranoid, and talked about wiretaps and conspiracies, laying groundwork for the 'mentally ill suicide' explanation. Although when there actually was a conspiracy involving wiretaps, I'm not sure that should count as evidence.

Any reason for the title: "British police murder whistleblower"?

baleen - 2011-07-18

Because he was murdered. He destroyed the careers of some very powerful people in the law enforcement and intelligence community and was going to destroy more. Of course he was paranoid, he was being followed constantly. He also exposed bribery across the police force. This is the kind of thing that people are routinely murdered over. Best case scenario if he wasn't murdered he was driven to suicide by the prospect of being murdered and constantly shadowed everywhere he went.

kingarthur - 2011-07-18

Yeah, I agree.

Slightly related: I saw Red Riding. British police give me the creeps ever since.

"Mr Hoare, [...] claimed last week that NOTW reporters bribed police officers to track targets for stories using mobile-phone mast technology.
...

Mr Hoare apparently told a reporter last week that he had been injured the previous weekend while dismantling a marquee put up for a children's party. An accidental blow from a heavy pole used to erect the marquee had had broken his nose and badly injured his foot. "

Seems like an accident prone kind of guy.
