Xenocide - 2011-06-04
I never saw Kefka as a clown. His in-game sprite isn't wearing any makeup, but he does have a jaunty feather in his cap, leading me to think of him as more of a foppish dandy. There's a villain I can get behind. A fellow of leisure who spends his evenings taking snuff or attending the latest opera, or paying his servants extra to tie him up and flog him. And then by day, he commits genocide. While dressed in the height of 18th century Austrian court fashion.
As for Sephiroth, he's crap, and if you like him, you like crap.

StanleyPain - 2011-06-04 You have to remember that after a certain point, Square just made a company-wise decision to completely fuck up anything that was ever remotely cool about their characters or games. His portrayal as a preening, ridiculous, Liberace-on-steroids was the result of that awful PSX remake of FF4 that used CGI cutscenes and it sort of stuck from there.
|
Redlof - 2011-06-04 I think John Simm as The Master in new Doctor Who is what Kefka should be like. A psychopath with a sense of humor, not just wacky wacky wacky.
YEAH I'M TALKING ABOUT FINAL FANTASY AND DOCTOR WHO WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT?

Hank Friendly - 2011-06-04 I saw Rob Roy in theaters when I was about 9, and was probably playing FF3 shortly thereafter, and I gotta say thats about 100% dead on

FABIO - 2011-06-04 The only difference between early 90s and late 90s Square character design was the graphics finally catching up to their "vision".

poorwill - 2011-06-04 Whoops, didn't finish my thought:
Nomura just sticks that shit on everybody regardless. And almost all the characters are the same age as their audience of teens/twenty-something retards now.

Riskbreaker - 2011-06-04
VG franchises that need to go, or at least take a LONG rest and have the people behind them seriously reconsider what the hell they are doing. From the top of my head:
-Sonic
-Soul Calibur
-King of Fighters
-Final Fantasy
-Castlevania

FeeFiFoFoTheFifeFifeBrown - 2011-06-04 Castlevania is just fine. Better than just fine, actually. Few series have the embarrassment of riches that is two solid gold gameplay formulas. They just need to quit trying to make shit that isn't a 2D action platformer or Metroid style adventure game.
|
poorwill - 2011-06-04 They need to murder all the people who insist that the more straightforward, NES-style platformers were actually good games in any way. Symphony and the other similar titles have their problems - some of them serious - but even the worst is better than the 'best' old-style CV. Some of them have cool music tho.
|
Riskbreaker - 2011-06-04 I have to agree with the Castlevania comments to a certain point. I do wish they did tried harder than just "let's clone symphony of the night until the sun freezes". A healthy mix of old school and metroidvania style sounds good to me.
So, i change castlevania, and put Silent Hill in it. The thing is, Konami doesn't seem to care about their old franchises anymore. They just want Kojima to milk MGS until the end of times.

King of Fighters is likely going to die soon anyway due to its parent company being in terrible financial straits. And Soul Calibur is supposedly getting rebooted.
Final Fantasy is quickly turning into the Sonic franchise.
