CRAWLING OUT OF HER SKIN.

Lurchi - 2011-05-26

I love this guy. What a card!

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-26

I love that moment at the 0:22.

It's like a husband noticing his wife's expression during his public joke about her weight, faltering as he realizes he's in trouble, and then deciding the best thing to do is get to the punchline.

Old_Zircon - 2011-05-26

!

revdrew - 2011-05-26

Obviously a Kids in the Hall fan

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-05-27

It's hard to understand his answer without hearing the question. But I guess we're not supposed to understand, just jerk our knees.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-27

I suppose hearing "I'm a Nazi who is sympathetic to Hitler" does provoke a kneejerk response of "Boy, that was a fucking stupid thing to say". You might have noticed how everyone else there who heard the question, including his coworkers, all had the same response.

The question incidentally was whether his German heritage informed his filmmaking. A dumb question certainly, but not one to reasonably provoke that response.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-05-27

You do realize he is technically Jewish, yes?

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-27

I was aware he is actually Jewish. I'm not upset he wants to act out the Final Solution (his words), I'm mocking his ill-advised Mel Gibson impersonation.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-05-27

I say technically because, although he grew up with Jewish parents, his mother admitted to him on her deathbed that his real father was a german businessman she had an affair with. I think the wording of the question is important, but even your capsule summary makes it clear that the seemingly innocuous "how does your german heritage affect your film making" is really "how does having a slut for a mother and being a bastard affect your film making", at least from his point of view. I'm sure the questioner knew this bit of personal history, although it's possible he just hit that sore point by accident.

His answer, although badly fumbled, was quite interesting. Search on his name and Iran for a clarifying statement from him.

Valkor - 2011-05-27

Funny story about how Jewish heritage is transferred. He is full on Jewish.

OxygenThief - 2011-05-27

C'mon guys it was obviously just a poorly executed joke. If we are going to judge him why not just focus on his incredibly pompous films.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-27

He's being judged for making a horribly tasteless and stupid joke, after he made a horribly tasteless and stupid joke. I'm not convinced that's unfair.

OxygenThief - 2011-05-27

I don't think that's unfair I just like to shit on his movies.

Born in the RSR - 2011-05-27

Hear Hear!

StanleyPain - 2011-05-27

Who fucking cares. It was a stupid joke, he's not racist, he's a great filmmaker, he's not a politician, let's move on to something important.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-27

I've never seen his movies, and like everyone else, barely noticed this story on Variety and Gawker. But damned if those reactions from Kirsten Dunst aren't uncomfortably humorous.

Incidentally, was it ever confirmed if that classic linked "Why Kirsten Dunst drinks" video was fake? Because between these clips and her career, someone need to make a tragicomic movie of her life.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2011-05-27

Get Werner Herzog to follow her around and I think you've got a great idea.

Born in the RSR - 2011-05-27

He's not a great film maker, he's a great troll, all of his movies were trolls.

dododge - 2011-05-28

I don't think Riget was all that trollish. Then again I guess it wasn't actually a proper movie.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2011-05-27

A guy with FUCK tattooed on his knuckles who is known for being outrageous and inflammatory does a crazy thing right when he has a new movie coming out. Hmmm...

Rape Van Winkle - 2011-05-27

1:30 - 1:32

I love him.

notascientist - 2011-05-27

Was that German guy saying something?

oddeye - 2011-05-27

When you start a sentense with "I'm a nazi" it can't go anywhere but down hill.

Adham Nu'man - 2011-05-27

Good video, but - 1 star because my misreading of the title as "Lars Von Trier's Nazi Giraffe" led me to have impossibly high expectations about its content.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-05-27

I know this was just a bad joke, but I still want to throw the book at him for Dancer in the Dark... seriously... 10 years later I still hate him for that movie.

baleen - 2011-05-27

He feeds off of the gasps in the audience.

boner - 2011-05-27

Sounds like an answer Larry David would give

Old_Zircon - 2011-05-27

He should start a gang with Stockhausen.

Wombles - 2016-04-07

I agree with this guy. Hitler did do some wrong things, and is not what you would call a good guy.

I'm also not against Jews.
