Actually Cartoon Brew wrote a fucking essay on how this show heralds the death of "creator-driven" animation and how we need to get back to making stuff like Cow & Chicken.

Because you see, this has a toy line. And also is done in Flash. Ergo it's pointless and stupid compared to artistic gold like Roger Ramjet.

The thing that sets Friendship is Magic aside from previous versions of the show is that this isn't just to sell toys. The older show was basically just made to do so. FIM is actually adorable and entertaining on its own.

Exactly, Mother Puncher. The show's creator genuinely wants to entertain kids, which is why she bothered with giving each character its own personality in the first place. But no, according to Cartoon Brew, the mere existence of the toy line means this show signals THE DEATH OF ALL THE ANIMATIONS FOREVER or whatever the fuck they're crying about.

Incidentally they also hate Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends because "the character designs aren't organic like on The Flintstones" and Flapjack because "it's too ugly."

Oh and The Simpsons (as in, the classic episodes) because "there's not enough squash and stretch and thus isn't REAL animation."

They do love Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarves though!

I wouldn't say this is the best show ever, but as a show that has the double strike of being a show for little girls and a reboot, this isn't the most terrible thing on television. In fact, it's infinitely more watchable than a lot of dreck on television.
