God bless our murderous invasion force - the most left-wing American president ever.

MongoMcMichael - 2010-12-24

Apparently, you live in a magical, alternate Earth where Democratic presidents never have to say anything good about the troops. I'm sure they serve free youth-restoring ice cream from the backs of unicorns, too.

Aside from your unrealistic expectations, fuck this dude. All he can say for his presidency thus far is that he dragged his feet on every socially progressive issue, handed his Republican enemies the knife to slit his own throat, and totally sapped the energy from an enthusiastic base that turned red states blue. At least he kept Sarah Palin out of the executive branch for four years, but another two years of blubbering and ceding all his authority to the Republican minority will be enough to change that.

Xenocide - 2010-12-24

Yeah, if you take away repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell, getting the START treaty passed, extending jobless benefits for a year, giving 9/11 first responders health care (all in the same week) extensive financial reform, the most comprehensive health reform bill in 100 years, and all those other things he did, Obama hasn't done anything!

Plus, at no point has he personally come over to my house and sucked me off. I guess my vote isn't appreciated after all.

Seriously, I'm amazed with how little your rant matches up to the reality of the last two weeks. This president has done more with a lame duck congress in fourteen days than most presidents do in with a regular congress in a year, and that's with the GOP fighting him every step of the way. The guy could defiantly stand to compromise less, and he's disappointed me on a good number of issues, but there's a point where you just start sounding like a spoiled kid when you dismiss EVERYTHING the man has done just because it makes it easier to dump on him.

Mother_Puncher - 2010-12-24

Here, Xenocide. Just take them.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2010-12-24

I won't be pleased until he personally shits on Mitch McConnell's head

MongoMcMichael - 2010-12-24

Wow, he really did a lot in the last week! Mind you, he did this after losing his super-majority, waking up, and panicking about his 2012 election prospects. He also did it after vacillating for the last TWO YEARS about any sort of LGBT rights and after begging the GOP to accept Bob Dole's old health care plan from 1996 (which he then watered down).

This has been a pretty sweet week. It should have been a pretty sweet two years.

FABIO - 2010-12-24

You're an idiot.

Sorry =(

StanleyPain - 2010-12-24

If you think Obama is most left-wing president in US history, you're not very educated.

Ludo Smell Bad - 2010-12-24

I'm with Xenocide. Pragmatism wins in the end and cooler heads prevail.

Cena_mark - 2010-12-25

Good God Nithing! I graduate from basic training just to be called part of a murderous invasion force by you. If somebody as liberal as Obama can appreciate the troops then you must be the nuttiest left wing freak ever.

kingarthur - 2010-12-25

Xeno,

You don't give people brownie points for shit they should have been doing anyway. That's like rewarding a kid for cleaning his room after you asked him every day straight for two years.

Just no.

Bort - 2010-12-25

Get mad at Obama all you like for not being awesome enough, but if you want to see progressive change, it's still a two-step process:

1) Push Republicans out of office.

2) Make progressive shit happen.

The dumber liberals are mad that Obama wasn't able to jump straight to #2 (because clearly he was elected Emperor and not President), so they didn't come out in support of Democratic candidates in November. Which allowed more Republicans to get into office, making progressive change that much more unlikely. Good job, guys!

kingarthur - 2010-12-25

I did, Bort.

For brevity, I'm just gonna say "CHRIS HEDGES IS RIGHT" and leave it at that. They're carving us up for the wealthy and the healthcare bill is the perfect example, what with the complete rollover on the public option.

Bort - 2010-12-25

Okay, kingarthur, please give me the game plan that would have made a public option possible, given conservative Democrats, a Republican Party that was hell-bent on opposing any revision to health care at all, a deep-pocketed insurance industry, Fox News, a rumor mill that scared people over even private-insurance-centered health care reform, and the many competing desires of the Democratic Party. The most overwhelming obstacle is to get all 60 non-Republican votes in the Senate, which means you have to come up with something that is going to satisfy Liebermann, Nelson, and the other pro-business Democrats; if you don't do that, this thing is DoA.

So, how do you do it? If you can present an actual game plan, then fair enough, that's what Obama should have done. But if you can't come up with anything that isn't just a variation of "he should have tried harder", guess what: you're mad that Obama couldn't achieve something even you acknowledge would have been impossible. How smart is that?

MongoMcMichael - 2010-12-25

Dear Respected Fellow POETV Commentators,

Stanley: So, you're agreeing with me about Obama being a shit 'liberal' president, and the five stars are for evil?

Fabio: Nice comment, up to your usual posting quality.

Ludo: Nice 'Labyrinth' reference. Pragmatism has worked really well thus far, huh?

Cena: Good to have you back. Still not convinced you joined up, but whatever. Your idiocy is creative and hilarious, whereas Fabio is among the most uncreative of trolls.

Bort: He did neither of your two points. You know how you get the liberal base energized? DO SOME LIBERAL SHIT. No wonder the Republicans took the House back. Also, Republicans tend to get their goofy, racist, homophobic, theocratic shit through Congress when they hold both the houses and the executive. Democrats tend to bicker with each other and get nothing accomplished while promising the moon and the stars. See, there's this thing in the legislative branch called a 'whip' that's supposed to make the Democrats vote as lock-step as the Republicans, but the Democrats are too busy stabbing each other in the back for such a post to be effective. So, in short, fuck the guy who couldn't unite anyone and only got anything done this past week.

Regards,

MM

Bort - 2010-12-26

Mongo: since Obama is a President and not an Emperor, he can't just roll out of bed, "do some liberal shit", and transform the country all by himself. To see the sorts of sweeping "liberal shit" that would be necessary to win your support, Obama's got to get two chambers of Congress on board too, one of them requiring every Democratic vote given the fucked up rules it operates under.

I put it to you as well, Mongo, to come up with an actual plan that could have delivered a public option. Since you're operating under the completely sane and reasonable conviction that every failing of the Democratic Party is Obama's personal fault, and also apparently that Obama is capable of voting Republicans out of office but has refused to, I expect you to post a lot of noise but not actually cough up a plan.

MongoMcMichael - 2010-12-27

Oh, Bort, Bort, Bort. Apparently, you're pretty new to politics. Remember the first seven or so years of the decade, when the Republicans used to vote lock-step on every issue, regardless of whether or not it hurt the individual congressmen in their local elections? That's why I tried to explain how a 'whip' worked, but that's too difficult for you to grasp.

You know how to get a public option through Congress? GET THE WHIPS TO DO THEIR JOB, and don't let the minority write your goddamn bill.

Let me dumb it down for you: President puts pressure on congressional affiliates to pass agenda. Congress passes agenda. Shit gets done, and the party controls the executive for another four years.

Obama had the novel idea of giving the minority everything they asked for and more while not consolidating his congressional affiliates around a common agenda. This move brilliantly canceled out his super-majority and earned him the ire of his liberal base, so now he's scrambling to effect changes he should have made two years ago.

I put it to you, Bort, to explain just how Obama committed to the repeal of DADT. Mind you, he paid only lip-service to the idea until this year, when he finally offered a timetable for overturning the policy. Furthermore, he has not called a halt to servicemen and women getting shit-canned for their orientation during the oh-so-difficult work of collecting a year's worth of surveys on the issue. Of course, since Obama is the Commander-in-Chief, he could simply halt all the DADT discharges while these surveys were taking place, but fuck those faggots, amirite?

One decent week doesn't overturn two years of indolence and ineffective party leadership.

Bort - 2010-12-31

"GET THE WHIPS TO DO THEIR JOB". So you don't have an answer then, unless you think the Whips simply need to be told to try harder and suddenly all disagreement in a party is squelched. Dear child, if life were only that simple.

The Republicans have been cultivating lockstep party allegiance for decades now, and the only function GOP Congressmen need to perform is vote as a bloc to appeal to America's worst impulses. They're easy to control. The Democrats have NEVER commanded that sort of unity, because they are more given to concepts like "public service" and "good ideas" and "competent governance". This makes them a lot more resistant to voting for proposals they disagree with, and I don't think the Democrats ever will achieve perfect party unity. In any event, it's not Obama's fault that the Democrats are this way, as much as you think blame him personally.

Incidentally, Liebermann is Independent. How was the Democratic Party supposed to get him in line? Again, show me an actual god damn plan you simpleton.

OhYouMeanNancy - 2010-12-24

Cena! Where you been? Us lurkers missed you!

OhYouMeanNancy - 2010-12-24

Dammit, that was supposed to be a reply. Oh, well. Happy Saturnalia, all!

Cena_mark - 2010-12-25

Well I'm back. Faster, stronger, smarter, basically trained. Ready to give libtards what for.

Cat_Mech - 2010-12-25

Faster, stronger, smarter, basically trained... is like being a woman at a bar.

If you have to tell people you are, then you probably aren't.

I await independent proof of your claim of military attendance. Until then, you are still a lying fake living in your parent's basement and smearing your face with bad wrestler make up.

Don't let those uppity negroes get you down!

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-12-25

How was bootcamp? Did you get blisters? Did you get your feelings hurt by your DI? When do you ship out? Going to Afghanistan or some cushy military police gig on an airbase in Germany?

Cena_mark - 2010-12-25

Bootcamp was tough. I didn't get blisters. My CCs didn't hurt my feelings because I spent most of my time under their radar while the Gomer Pyles got destroyed. I'm going to California for further training. I don't know where I'm going after that. I'd like to get stationed on a Medium Endurance Cutter.

MongoMcMichael - 2010-12-26

Look at this chickenhawk bouncer.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-12-26

Wait, what? Did you join the Coast Guard?

Cena_mark - 2010-12-26

Yes I'm a Coastie now. That's why it took me so long to get into the service. I wanted to join with the best, now I am the best.
