is there a holiday in january? NEEEEED

RocketBlender - 2010-12-12

There is way too much reading and arguing to be done all over this page, so screw all of it.

I'm just going to say here I'm looking forward to playing this game. That's all.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-12-12

I hope there's an asshole option you can choose where Shepard refuses to help the Earth and the game just ends

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-12-12

Every game has a similar option: "Not buying it."

Udderdude - 2010-12-12

BUT THOU MUST.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-12-12

It only took a dozen failed attempts but we've finally got an epic sci-fi game trilogy that managed to make it through all three games.

IrishWhiskey - 2010-12-12

End of Mass Effect 1:
The combined armies of the Council races barely manage to take out a single infant unstoppable artificial being known as a Reaper.

End of Mass Effect 2:
A massive army of Reapers approaches to wipe the galaxy clean of life, as they have done many times before in an unstoppable cycle of galactic genocide.

Beginning of Mass Effect 3:
The massive Reaper army is taking out the equivalent of a major Earth city every week. Based on projected population density estimates, they should be done with Earth in 65 years.

Beginning of Mass Effect 4:
Commander Shepard has retired and now the next generation of heroes must fight back, lead by Shepard's half-Human half-Hanar son. They have little time, as the Reapers have nearly finished wiping out Canada. At which point they'll be nearly 1/3 of the way to wiping out one planet.

SolRo - 2010-12-12

It's an occupation force, they're trying to bring freedom to earth.

Freedom from your fleshy coverings and incessant free will.

oddeye - 2010-12-12

Really I'd just move offworld. Not even that, they aren't going to hit London twice till they have done the other cities so just avoid England for a week, then move on in and get looting.

Lothy - 2010-12-12

But can you punch a reporter?

Adham Nu'man - 2010-12-12

They promised CGI cutscenes?

Mancakes - 2010-12-12

Crysis 2 is looking pretty good.

Pillager - 2010-12-12

Eh, more like Gears of War...

I'm still stoked though.

longwinded - 2010-12-12

no pleasing some people

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-12-12

Mass Effect 1: Pretty cool. The Reapers mode of invasion was a bit strange (one gate? Really?), but I went with it.

Mass Effect 2: Death is now meaningless, and we're working for a group portrayed in ME1 as nazis, pretty much. And if all that tech could revive a dead guy, they couldn't fix Joker? And now the Reapers don't need the gate, and instead of wiping out life, they're turning at least one race into a reaper?

And this puts aside that the series recycles ideas from just about every sci-fi movie ever. It's still fun, but it's not in any way coherent or original.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-12-12

SteamPoweredKleenex, you cry a lot about "casuals", don't you?

Also, lol at complaining that a series that was created as a sci-fi pastiche is unoriginal

SolRo - 2010-12-12

The bad guys didnt fix Joker, omg life so unfair //wrist

The only bad part of ME2 was that they didnt have another half a novel of tech discriptions for every little piece of equipment you ran into.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-12-12

No, "Dessert," and you apparently just skipped over where I said it was "fun" and all, I guess. I can't help it if I like my stories with a little "new" here and there and without plot holes a five-year-old could spot.

And SolRol, it just seemed rather odd that the whole point of ME2's beginning was that Cerberus could bring someone back from the dead yet couldn't get the pilot for such an important mission a little compensation through the company health plan.

If you really want complaining, I'd ask why a pilot who flies the ship into a destruct-o-ray at the beginning of the game performs the same maneuver (flying right in front of where said weapon fires) during a getaway near the end.

SolRo - 2010-12-12

because the destruct-oo ray is aiming at them? rays, especially of the destruct-o veriety, are usually being shot at you rather than in a random direction.

And I'm kinda guessing that Shep asked for Joker himself after being revived, he wasnt hired by cerberus when the shep-cicle was recovered.

Also the whole "galaxy might be doomed, go now to save it" narrative kinda makes it redundant for the pilot of a spaceship to get surgury in the middle of the whole thing.

And why the bitchy nitpicking about the guy that does nothing but sit for 99.99% of the last two games having a limp?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-12-12

SolRo, you've never played it, have you? The ship fired it from the forward section, never anywhere else. The Normandy shot out in front of it instead of, oh I don't know, flying off to port. Maybe that just wasn't deemed giving the bad guys a sporting chance.

And as for the galaxy being doomed, they had two years between the hero being killed (which was really unnecessary) and the start of the game. They could have given Joker new bones, a bigger dick and several sets of boobs in that time.

You must have liked playing the segment where he lopes through the ship more than I did. You did play the game, right?

SolRo - 2010-12-12

oh god yes, that one tiny mission in the whole of two games where you dont even shoot a gun.

what is your obsession with the cripple anyhow? or are you just so gay for seth green that his charecter needs to be anatomically perfect with a giant dong?

Lindner - 2010-12-13

... I liked the blue alien women.

StanleyPain - 2010-12-12

I kind of hate it when these sort of stories/games/whathaveyou always somehow wind up back on earth. Yes, because out of the entire galaxy the reapers really just wanted earth. Still, should be a cool game. Just put back in elevators and some party conversation instead of those retarded loading screens OOOPS I mean data readout displays.

delicatessen - 2010-12-12

b/c the earth's core is made out of pure reaper or some shit

IrishWhiskey - 2010-12-12

To be fair, the explanation (so far) is slightly better than that.
Spoilers below, but really why are you watching this otherwise?

Basically reapers take the strongest race around at the time of their galactic genocide, and keep some of them around to assimilate their genetic materials and use as a slave race. In the first game Shepard stopped their invasion, so the Reapers picked humans as their main target. The second game has the remaining slave race from their last extinction (Proteans, now called Collectors) abduct humans to use their genetic material to build a new Reaper. Shepard and humanity (Cerberus) killed it and struck back directly at the Reapers. So it makes perfect sense given their MO that Reapers would choose humanity as their target. Particularly if you made the renegade choice in the first game (as I did) and humanity is now functionally in charge of the Council and the dominant race in the Galaxy.

Adramelech - 2010-12-12

Even though winding up back at Earth makes some measure of sense in the game lore, it's still my only big pet peeve with this series. When the conversation with Sovereign happened in the first game I creamed myself as a big Lovecraft dork. Even though the Reapers are still basically Robo-Cthulhus, it's kind of lame they care about humans so much.

SolRo - 2010-12-12

Oh common, everyone wants to save The Earth, quit whining.

Also, we haven't gotten a chance to check out future earth yet, should be interresting if it isn't all generic_city_ruins_05

StanleyPain - 2010-12-12

I played ME2, so I know the whole story about using human DNA to create a reaper and why humans are so important. I just think it's a boring idea to take it to Earth when there's humans all over the damn place...but whatever...hopefully it will be a cool game and you will be able to take your surviving comrades with you.

Bisekrankas - 2010-12-12

You dont shoot a gun in the assassin loalty quest iirc

Meerkat - 2010-12-13

IN THE FUTURE humanity would have so poisoned the earth as to make it uninhabitable, so humanity should really have moved to a different planet IN THE FUTURE, leaving behind shit-soiled bedsheets and half-empty cheetos boxes.

So really, IN THE FUTURE the Reapers should be attacking whatever new planet humanity is based on IN THE FUTURE.

poorwill - 2010-12-12

Looks bad.

glasseye - 2010-12-12

Nope.

CJH - 2010-12-12

everyone who commented on this needs to give themselves a wedgie right now

IrishWhiskey - 2010-12-12

NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERDS!!!

oddeye - 2011-03-15

BOOYYAHAHAH PRAWNED!!!

I wont buy this game because I hate all the stupid bullshit EA pulls with their "buy it new or lose out on free content" and a million and one DLC's at launch.
