Why do they say her name as either Ann or Ane? It should be one way. People don't say my first name two different ways.

Also, I'm not sure you should tell people that the movie is based on any kind of philosophy because it just makes you sound even more pretentious than when you're talking about 'paring away' or any of that other artist mumbo-jumbo. Nobody wants to listen to John Travolta talk about some new sci-fi movie and how it fits in with the teachings of Scientology, for example. "Yeah, I think the character is almost perfectly clear, but there are some lingering engrams he has yet to deal with, so I think that makes it interesting."

I haven't even read any Ayn Rand stuff and I want to tell this guy to fuck off.

Twitch - 2010-08-15

Because 'Ayn' is pronounced like 'ein', which is Objectivist for 'one'.

Merzbau - 2010-08-16

I'd always remembered that it rhymes with MINE!.

Desidiosus - 2010-08-16

AYN VOLK
AYN REICH
AYN RAND!

bongoprophet - 2011-02-05

here desi, have these.

Riskbreaker - 2010-08-15

See, this is why i like Bioshock. Killing crazy libertarians is always good fun.

chairsforcheap - 2010-08-15

gotta back my bro up

poorwill - 2010-08-15

I didn't kill any grubby ponytail-and-neckbeard-sporting douchebags with permanently cocked eyebrows in Bioshock. Just a bunch of zombies and little girls.

Riskbreaker - 2010-08-15

Sure, it's not 100% realistic, but the idea is there.

Pillager - 2010-10-16

poorwill, they all voted for Ron Paul.

They got what they had coming to them.

IrishWhiskey - 2010-08-15

"You can't have a character in a movie go, 'This is what I stand for'. In my opinion, my humble opinion, the way you should make a movie is, present them with choices, and see which one they pick."

Atlas Shrugged involves nothing but strawmen with no realistic choices, until the HERO (also known as Ayn Rand's father, who rapes the AUTHOR SUBSTITUTE to her delight in each novel) makes a 60 page OOC speech on libertarianism. After which everyone poor either screams that they wish to serve the superior rich, or commit suicide along with the world. This had nothing to do with Communists killing Ayn Rand's wealthy father when she was young.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-08-16

I'll just call the above "the point" and mention that before you get to it there are like 500 pages about how Dagny is turned on by industriousness (as evidenced by Hank and Francisco) and occasionally some crap is mentioned about how the world is ending.

memedumpster - 2010-08-15

This had better be in 3D.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2010-08-15

God damn fucking libertarians.

By the way, look up Izzit Videos. They make libertarian hack DVDs and sell them to schools and teachers so they can teach their students all about the evils of government and environmentalism. Pure fucking evil.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-08-16

It's doubly ironic because Rand spoke out against Libertarians, claiming they just took the dogma and personal irresponsibility of hippies and applied it to her "teachings".

Of course, Rand spoke out against anybody who arbitrarily offended her sensibilities so it doesn't mean much.

rroach - 2010-08-16

Yes. Atlas Shrugged was a bore. But I still like The Fountainhead because of two reasons. One, Ayn's obession with the individual and two, I read it as facist science fiction and that view point made the novel that much better.

Her description of Rorke (?) on at the beginning on the granite cliffface is pretty goddamn spectacular.

Sanest Man Alive - 2010-08-16

This made my fucking week, seriously. I don't think I can stop laughing anytime soon, just knowing how hard it will flop.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-08-16

So I'm guessing Brad Pitt isn't going to be in this like he originally wanted to.

The director sounds like someone that just pretends to be a director at parties.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2010-08-16

I'm sure he's a born storyteller. I've just listened to this guy talk about his movie for five minutes and I have no idea what the fuck it's supposed to be about.

I saw Ayn Rand on "Donahue" in 1980. As far as I'm concerned, that covered it.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-08-16

Cunts: the movie

StanleyPain - 2010-08-16

I love the Scientology-esque way they keep trying to divorce Rand's batshit crazy ideology from the book despite the fact it's pretty much inescapably tethered to it.

phalsebob - 2010-08-16

"You can't have a character in a movie go, 'This is what I stand for'. In my opinion, my humble opinion, the way you should make a movie is, present them with choices, and see which one they pick."

Oh you mean 'show, don't tell'? Man that is some cutting edge literary philosophy right there, man! You should put that as your signature for EVERY FUCKING FANFIC SITE ON THE INTERNET!

Thanks for typing that quote out for me Irish, my fingers were going numb.

Quad9Damage - 2010-08-16

I never read that brick, and I think I made the right choice. I'll just stick with historical nonfiction and books about murderers, thank you very much.

Feyd - 2010-08-16

This makes losers so mad. :)

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-08-16

Maybe you should just go to a deserted island and deprive us of your presence. We'll let you know if you're missed.

Feyd - 2010-08-17

If you look carefully, you can observe one of these bitter specimens here in its natural habitat.

Cat_Mech - 2010-08-19

No one outside of the USA, and no one inside it with a completed post-secondary education, gives Ayn Rand anything but disdain and finds Objectivism anything other than poorly thought out, logically inconsistent and solipsistic pablum that holds so little value that debating it alone degrades it's opponents the same way arguing with a graduate with a PhD in Godology from Pat Robertson University about quantum physics and carbon dating only makes you dumber regardless of whether or not you succeed in getting through their personal wall of cognitive disconnect they need to hide behind in order to fuel the fantasy that keeps them warm and embryonic.

One sentence.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-08-19

I love you.

ashtar. - 2010-08-29

107 words. Five Stars.

Killer Joe - 2010-12-09

"If it doesn't get made for 53 years..."
It might not need to get made.
Maybe, maybe not.
But yeah. In this case, yeah.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-02-19

How nay years does it feel like sitting through?
