1832 - The Anti-Masonic Party!
1836 - Three different Whig candidates!
1872 - FIVE DIFFERENT DEMOCRATS!
1948 - Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and like part of Tennessee should all be ashamed of themselves.
1964 - The Solid South changes sides. Because BLACK PEOPLE.
1968 - OH NO BLACK PEOPLE.
1972 - LOL MCGOVERN
1984 - LOL MONDALE

There is an awesome lecture series on why and how the parties came to be and what they are exactly. Lewis also goes into great detail on the regional influences of the different parties. Even down to district levels.
It goes all the way up to the present day.

If you have several hours of nerd time to spare, enjoy the whole series! It will make you think differently about our "horrible two-party system."
