There's something incredibly crass about mixing in shitty Michael Bay movies with actual footage of 9/11 and people dying. Although it is highly reflective of the thought-processes involved.

Question: Why is the Rapture movement so focused on events preceding and following the Rapture, particularly natural disasters and conspiracy theories involving the UN, microchip, the Mark of the Beast, politicians, etc?

If you believe you'll be saved, then you'll be in heaven and your not effected. If you think you won't be saved, then surely after God reveals himself, you'd spent every waking minute praying, and not caring whether we've adopted the Euro and elected a Democrat, because you are guaranteed that there is an afterlife, and that no matter what you or anyone else does, you will shortly be dead. This is the one time in human history when you should be completely unconcerned with material events and dangers.

1. The Fred Phelps argument: There's some obscure bible passage that reads: "Ye shall rub their faces in it!"

2. Just as Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich deliver disaster-porn to the world, these people writing the rapture books, and making the rapture movies and web-sites are delivering disaster-porn of a specific fetish. "Raptureists" are the furries of disaster-porn.

Rapture enthusiasts are concerned about events leading up to the Rapture because to them it proves the biblical prophecies are correct and they can warn others by showing them the obvious truth (nevermind the exact details of said prophecies are a bit jumbled) As for events during and after the Rapture, that's your basic scare tactic. Frighten unbelievers with horrible images and then offer them one way out.

They of course are very sure they won't be around for the Rapture. They just don't want to go alone.

"Question: Why is the Rapture movement so focused on events preceding and following the Rapture"

I know what you were trying say but that was funny

According to my reading of scriptures, the 'dragon' mentioned in Revelation is actually sign that God will send dinosaurs to purge wicked from the Earth. I call this the 'Velocirapture.'

Vaidency - 2010-05-17

Ok, so we've been wrong over and over and over and over and over and over and over for nearly two thousand years now, but THIS TIME we're sure we know just what events the author of Revelation was talking about!

kingofthenothing - 2010-05-17

WELL YEAH TOTALLY DUGH CUZ NOW THEY CAN READ THE BIBLE IN HD!

TimidAres - 2010-05-17

This is stupid.

But the concept of the actual "rapture" (good girls and boys being lifted to heaven before all the shit goes down) is only 300 or so years old, started by some English guy I think.

I am, by no means, an expert on the matter.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-05-17

I have heard similar things about Protestantism.

bopeton - 2010-05-17

Frankly, I can't wait until these people are raptured the fuck out of here.

Camonk - 2010-05-17

They'll be looking down, shaking their fists, "They're not all dying! They're pushing through universal healthcare and regulating businesses! What gives?"

moldprince - 2010-05-17

Good lord I hope a giant CG tidal wave overtakes me before I live to see a "One World Governemt" rise to power.

Man Who Fights Like Woman - 2010-05-17

So wait, what will chaos unleash? They never said!

oddeye - 2010-05-17

Anyday now non-believers. Boy are your faces going to be red.

Xero - 2010-05-17

Do I get double points if I have the mark of the beast both on my forehead and in my right hand?

pastorofmuppets - 2010-05-17

The most terrifying thing about life is that it's fairly mundane.

memedumpster - 2010-05-17

Christianity engineered global warming.
