The reason why SCTV ruled the day is that they let them do pretty much anything without any regard for mainstream concerns. SNL slowly became more and more reigned in, even as their first folks were on their way out, but they pretty much left SCTV alone to experiment. For that reason alone SCTV ages pretty well and most SNL coming out at the same time is utterly stale. And I don't think you have to be Canadian to find this funny, as long as you saw a lot of PBS or BBC trivia in the 80s you're good.
I love old panel shows. Even the slow intro banter. Then they always run out of time for the game, which was just a pretense to get theater mavens to politely riff on each other and sell safety razors. Someone needs to sack up and bring that back. Bravo channel: you could do it, and it would have the added benefit of eliminating one of your current shows, which are destroying America.
