It's great, because the crash test people were straight up about it. "Look, if you want a car that gets high gas mileage, drive a fucking Prius. This thing is a rollcage with an engine."
The USA distributors aren't importing the high-efficiency SmartCars. Averaged city/highway mpg (converted from Imp gallons):
Diesel - 69.2 mpg
Micro-Hybrid - 53.4 mpg
For highway mpg, they're really bumping up against drag, which longer front/real cowls would help. Myself, I'm hoping the 75+ mpg Persu Hybrid tilting trike project survives the depression and becomes a reality. Its sort of an ideal solo commuter/tourer/peacock tail vehicle.
