This is pretty close to my initial crazy dreams about Google Streetview - hook this fucker up to a racing simulator and let me drive down any street in the world. I want to turn donuts in the middle of a photorealistic Pennsylvania Avenue.

Yes! That is exactly what I've been thinking about for years! Imagine being able to have a racing game or GTA clone that uses your town. It won't happen for a long time, but I can dream.

Ace Combat 6 has had a similair geo-mapping system since 2007, although you can only fly through the cities, not drive...

There is a flight simulator within in Google Earth as well, hidden in one of the menus, you can pick a jet or little prop plane if I remember right

It's just a combination of a bunch of inexpensive technologies that we've had available for years, but what a combination!

Comeuppance - 2010-02-12

Now just hand that data over to Rockstar and I'll have exactly what I've always wanted.

GTA: The Fucking World.

They keep outdoing themselves. This looks even better than Google Ron Paul.

kiint - 2010-02-12

hmm, well from the comments I thought he was going to say "Betelgeuse" at the end and fly off into the galaxy. Now that I think about it Im sure that they have this but just aren't showing it yet.

Agent #1 - 2010-02-12

There are programs that do that already, so they could easily get all the star position data for their own thing.

memedumpster - 2010-02-12

Google Guided Missile!

augias - 2010-02-12

now they have to integrate it to a website's IP addresses so we can have an accurate 3D internet *wheezes*

Comeuppance - 2010-02-13

It'd be so much easier to just build a GUI with visual basic.

"MY MOTHER'S BASEMENT."

Zoom out a little bit before that works.
