To answer the question at the end, none, as I don't watch Leno.

This was horrible to watch, and yes, he is a corporate whore. I feel bad for anyone who sat through the Wendy sketch, blugh.

Christ, Bill Hicks called Jay leno a corporate whore and BIll Hicks died in I think 1812. So I mean, yes. This isn't a question worth asking. Is Jay Leno a whore? Do popes shit in the wood with Catholic bears? Does Camonk have a drinking problem? YES CHRIST YES WHY ARE YOU ASKING THESE DUMBASS QUESTIONS

That was practically culture-jamming compared to what you find in print.

Except for the Bing stuff...you have to wonder how somebody as big as Leno would lack the leverage or the desire to say no to that sort of thing.

It's not just Leno. Watch any show on NBC and you'll be force fed dollops of product placement.

I don't know if it's that he's a shill per se - he's just speaking to his audience.
Not to sound like some douche from Adbusters, but if you're going to hold the interest of the average person, you're going to eventually have to resort to front page headlines, sex scandals, entertainment news, fart jokes or universal experiences. And nothing's more universal in the good old US of A than shopping. He knows to get the average American listening you have to talk about the lowest common denominator - consumer goods.
And I'm sure he's pandering all the way to the bank on the side, but still, he's talking about the things important to the average person. And to the average person that's that's Walmart, Starbucks, McDonald's etc.
|
pastorofmuppets - 2010-01-14 That excuses McDonalds but it still doesn't explain the Bing game.

He stole Earn Your Plug pretty much whole cloth from Howard Stern. I've heard people talk about Leno's theft before but this is the first time I've watched an extended enough sequence of his stuff to catch one on my own.
