THA SUGAH RAIN - 2009-09-21

This looks less sophomoric than that Religulous thing

Lindner - 2009-09-21

I know! ... but I'll still probably watch it despite that.

FeeFiFoFoTheFifeFifeBrown - 2009-09-21

LOL XIANS SO EDGY

What?

Sick Man - 2009-09-21

XIANS GET PWNED BY MOVIE

Sick Man - 2009-09-21

"Michael Moore meets Monty Python"
Where do they dredge up the retards to write USA Today?

This looks alright.

CharlesSmith - 2009-09-22

Almost all movies and tv shows are initially pitched as "Thing that made money" meets "other thing that made money". So they just crib that shit from the press release.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-09-21

I'm willing to wait for the Christians in this country to be the ones that start patching up relations.

Because I sure as Hell am not going to.

teethsalad - 2009-09-22

especially if it involves acknowledging their imaginary friends as authorities

SolRo - 2009-09-22

Christians are more than happy to compromise

till you agree that you're a godless sodomite, who will burn in hell for all eternity because you didn't vote republican.

Cena_mark - 2009-09-22

Good God Sol ho. Way to just blindly stereotype Christians. He'll its not even the Bush era any more and you're still bitter. Yes Christians are more likely to vote republican, but that doesn't spell out every Christians political views.
If you want to judge somebody who is intolerant go look into a mirror.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-09-22

SolRo is a reactionary dullard.

Cena wins this round.

Now you be good, and remember, the power is yours! Captain Planet tells me so. And I know he's real. He's on TV.

SolRo - 2009-09-22

Meh, kiss my ass. (both of you)

Poor christians getting stereotyped, something they -never- do to anyone else.

except to

gays
athiests
scientists
geologists
archealogists
liberals
muslims
brown people
red people
yellow people
jews
other non-christian white people
christians that aren't the right kind of christians or "christain enough"

suck it.

Cena_mark - 2009-09-22

I'm not saying they don't judge and stereotype, but you don't have to give in with more negativity. You could do as the Christians say they do and turn the other cheek.

SolRo - 2009-09-22

That's the nice thing about being athiest, I don't have to obey your wizard book.

Cena_mark - 2009-09-22

I didn't say you had to, and its not my wizard book because I am an agnostic. I'm just pointing out your hypocrisy, which as an atheist you're free to commit.

memedumpster - 2009-09-22

I'll stereotype 'em.

Fuck 'em, show me an actual Christian who isn't a thundering douche, just one. Let's pretend God is going to wipe us all out because there aren't any actual Christians on earth and only I can convince him otherwise, where is that one Christian I can throw out there like Lot did with Sodom? Where?

SolRo - 2009-09-22

some retard needs to look up the definition of hypocricy, because I never claimed to be following the bible or other toilet paper, so me going against it doesn't make me a hypocrit

memedumpster - 2009-09-22

I hope this further marginalizes fundamentalists into an even tinier, louder, box than before.

SolRo - 2009-09-22

scary thing is that the conservative politicians seem to listen to them more and more the smaller and louder they get.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

...and I hope someone goes to at least one theater that this is playing in and "accidentally" switches the reel for "Jesus Camp".

Syd Midnight - 2009-09-22

As long as people can learn to stop lumping "Christians" in with "asshole fundies", and stop lumping "athiests" with "asshole fundie athiests", we'll get along fine.

rawelkij - 2009-09-22

I don't know that Jesus had much to say about secular humanism.

simon666 - 2009-09-22

"...the evil out there, in the secular-humanists..." hahaha. Yeah, that's right, the founders of your country were evil, right? Huh, oh, well umm...

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

Oh, didn't you know? The founding fathers were all super-Christian. None of them ever said anything like:

"Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifiying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity."

Dinkin Flicka - 2009-09-22

Rodents is religious? I agreed with him above (which entails agreeing with Cena Mark) and I'm not religious.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

No, but I'll let him speak for himself. I have to assume he has some close family that's religious and I went a bit overboard.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-09-22

Actually, I'm not a Christian. I do claim agnosticism but make room for the possibility of God, reincarnation, etc.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-09-22

I have close friends who are Christian. Lots of people do.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

It's weird how you can tell what a person is like just by how they pronounce the word "liberal." And I guess if they say something like "secular humanism is evil" with a straight face that's usually a good indicator as well.

Look, I have no problem with Christians in this country *in principle*. Let's say hypothetically that they could shut the fuck up about "the gay/lesbian agenda" and, oh I don't know, kill all the Pentecostals and dump them in a mass grave, we'd be cool. We could even burn the bodies and eat s'mores together in a symbolic gesture of unity.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

Except Rodents. He can stay.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

(sorry ROUS I sometimes go off and forget there are people who would be offended by some of this stuff)

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-09-22

I'm not offended, I just try and look at this issue with a fair eye. I grew up in a fundamentalist environment, so if anyone should hate all Christians, it's me. But I don't, because Quakers don't believe the same things, and have very different views from say Catholics or 7th Day adventists, or the dozens of other sects.

I guess what I'm against is broad overgeneralization and lumping people together.

Udderdude - 2009-09-22

If they're so happy and loving, you think they would just move away entirely from the book which describes innumerable acts of cruelty, violence, rape and destruction. Among other things. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/

Yes yes, in before OMG EDGY.

memedumpster - 2009-09-22

They're already halfway there, they've abandoned the parts of the same book that tells them to love their neighbor and help the less fortunate.

Dinkin Flicka - 2009-09-22

They argue that it doesn't actually say those things. They really do.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

Well I've commented on this video enough, really, but I'd be curious to see evidence of that.

I mean there's a heck of a lot of cognitive dissonance being avoided by people going around claiming to be chosen by god and then saying "blessed are the poor in spirit" like they know what it means...but still, people actually denying certain things are in the Bible (not counting Mormons), that I have to call some shenanigans on.

memedumpster - 2009-09-22

One of the things I've encountered for not bothering to help the poor is where Jesus said the poor would always be with us, which they take to mean "fuck it, may as well ignore them then." They treat the poor like herpes.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

I always took "poor in spirit" to mean humble, especially with regards to religion. Like not being outwardly pious, assuming you know god's will, etc.

I thought a little about what Dinkin Flicka and I *have* seen people do some wacky shit with concordances and really old annotated Bibles to justify that certain things don't say what they appear to say. Especially with contradictory parts of the Bible...rather than just acknowledge that the different books were written in different periods and cultures by different authors, they start in with all this weird apologetics.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-22

here, this one's classic: http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/451

Udderdude - 2009-09-22

Damn, that site is exhibit-worthy all on it's own.

kingofthenothing - 2009-09-22

My invisible wizard in the sky was always this level 70 immortal wearing hawaiian shirts and sandals. He liked to play golf with exploding golf balls. Every once in a while his ball would go astray and spell calamity on the poor people in the world below. Every time my players went astray I'd just keep rolling until I got a natural 20.

Avengingatheist - 2009-09-22

I wish we could still throw the to the lions, legally.

Avengingatheist - 2009-09-22

them

Timothy A. Bear - 2009-09-22

Christians are furry-magnets.

Nyms Lives! - 2010-07-18

This guy seems pretty cool. By my count that makes the score now:

Reasoned Debate - 1
"Homoliberals are going to eat our babies unless we lock them up in concentration camps" - 50,000,000

I've met quite a few reasoned and reasonable Christians and called a number of them my friends. Unfortunately they're also the ones who stay home and quiet so they don't "rock the boat".
