Shore was music director for SNL during its golden era (75-80). He did other work, but saved his most idiosyncratic scores for Cronenberg: Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, M. Butterfly, Crash, eXistenZ, Spider. Pretty amazing jump from this to The Lord of the Rings soundtrack.
