(Splitting the difference on ratings because I don't need to see this.)
This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that makes me hate this show today. Forget all the lazy, reference-heavy cutaways and unrecognizable celebrity caricatures and interminable gags with no punchlines. What makes this unwatchable is that it's so casually mean-spirited it gets downright disturbing.
Gag after gag-inducing gag tries to be irreverent or transgressive but only offers hate and suffering without any actual jokes. Robot Chicken is another one that does this a lot.
It makes me downright uneasy to see people still enjoying these shows. It's like watching Irréversible in a theater where everyone else laughs.

Recently I stumbled in on my roommate watching an old Conway Twitty performance on the living room television. He had a sour look on his face. I asked him what he was watching, and he said "Family Guy." He got progressively angrier as the performance dragged on. 5 stars for Family Guy writers taking pains to punish their fans for watching this horrible show.
Oh, and the gag in this clip is profoundly stupid.

Jesus Christ, does this ever drag on. I went into it expecting to side with MacFarlane but had to shut it off halfway through because *nobody cares*.
And yeah the Conway Twitty bit was about as funny as eating topsoil. I still watch Family Guy but amidst a sea of terrible jokes that one has always stood out to me as the moment where I realized that Family Guy doesn't need to exist anymore.

b.) I just wanted to take this opportunity to say that, from what I've seen, Family Guy has one of the worst Dvd commentaries I've ever heard. I watched a couple of episodes with the commentary with a couple of friends a few years ago. We had to turn the thing off it was so bad.
Futurama gets gay guy and the ghost. Family Guy gets Seth Macfarlane acting like an autistic asshole.

BUT THEY MADE FUN OF US!
The Simpsons made fun of them twice, both were subtle shots which came off like good-natured ribbing. They lasted a combined total of maybe eight seconds. This shit not only goes on forever, it was followed up in a later episode by a gag where Homer is hit by a car and killed, and Peter looks at the corpse and goes "who the hell is that?"
Subtle!
I love how Seth paid an Asian prostitute to say what he didn't have the balls to.

It's the MacFarlane curse:
Long, long ago, in the days before VCRs, one of the interns on the set of some gameshow messed up, and the result of his actions was that the host of the show messed up what was supposed to be the big joke of pilot episode - which was being broadcast live - by enraging him into saying what were at the time some very shocking swearwords. Because of the slip-up, the show was dropped, and the would-be gameshow host's career was pretty much ruined (or so he thought at the time. later he would find considerable success in radio.).
In response to this the man lay down a curse upon the intern - that all men who descended from him, or who shared his bloodline or his name, would either become horrible hacks and plagiarists upon turning 15, or be raped every night of their adult lives by roving packs of radioactive commie sympathizers. Predictably, since then many of the young men who bear the curse have chosen to become vile, plagiarists and hacks. And others have simply moved to Hollywood.
And that man? That man who spoke the fateful words that cursed a family tree, that cursed a NAME... the man who in so doing eventually cursed an entire nation? That man was none other than... Paul Harvey.
And now you know... the rest of the story.

At least South Park seems relatively aware and plays off the fact that some of their jokes are misogynist. Family Guy never goes beyond 'lolz that girl is a whore.'

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-03-17 The first time I saw Family Guy my friends and I were shocked by the line about hookers being already dead inside (that was the first or second episode). It was so blatantly unfunny and just offensive and purposefully so it confounded me. It's popularity irritates me because it's anti women, anti intellectual, and anti comedy. He doesn't want to put any effort into humor so it's all HEY THIS IS SHOCKING AND HEY SO IS THIS HEY LOOK REFERENCES. The material is just based on getting a reaction rather than writing something witty. That, and Seth McFarlane is So. Fucking. Taken with himself. I've never seen a TV writer so in love with hearing himself talk about his work.
I once met a guy who described this show as something "entire families can enjoy". I hate him now.

Document - 2009-08-14 My (possibly fractured) opinion: if a joke makes me laugh - no matter what the subject matter is - it has succeeded as a joke.
Another (possibly even more fractured) opinion: all really good jokes contain an element of transgression. From insult comics like Jeffrey Ross dropping one-liners that'd get him punched in any other context, to Frankie Boyle's almost exclusive plumbing of offensively macabre terrain, to Chris Morris' angry satire - all really great comics go in directions that are uncomfortable, critical but ultimately funny. And what's more: we need those comics. We need those jokes, as pressure valves, as mirrors. Some genuinely awesome material has sprung forth from satirical attacks on social norms, so I have no problem with Family Guy's choice of material.
My bone with Family Guy is that they've got the formula backwards. "Transgressive" material (I seriously hate that word, but I can't think of a better substitute) alone does not a joke make. Pointless cruelty isn't funny, getting guffawed at because you said something nasty isn't the same as earning laughter.
Family Guy's popularity isn't surprising because this type of "humor" appeals to the absolute base of comedic situations: you are presented with a situation, the situation is inverted, hahaha. It isn't "edgy", it's very safe and everyone can "get" it, simply because there's very little to "get." It IS a show the whole family can watch (I didn't say enjoy) because everyone, from age 4 to 104, can understand the construction of the jokes, which are all essentially the same joke told over and over with different characters but the same punchline. That gets boring after a while.
All the great comics have walked a thin line between bad taste and hilarity, starting off in the center and drifting towards the periphery of "acceptable" material, pushing the audience's visceral reaction inch by inch, testing the waters.
Family Guy figured out that a reaction was as good as a giggle, and just jumped the line.
That's my 2 cents.

I agree that being transgressive is important, especially for great alternative comics like David Cross or Patton Oswalt. But the aspect of their comedy that sets them apart is not that it is offensive but that it makes you have to think about why something is offensive AND it makes you think about why that offensive thing is funny to you. They make you question yourself and your preconceived notions in a way that Seth MacFarlane can't even fathom, let alone attempt.
