The one where they go to hell is superior.

CCH Pounder is not in this anywhere...
BOOM! Finally worked in a CCH Pounder reference.

Desidiosus - 2009-01-12

Uh yeah. I'm beginning to see why Caminante didn't like this show.

HELLOOOOOOO NURSE!

fluffy - 2009-01-13

Unfunny running gags turned into terrible metahumor! HILARIOUS!

oh to be back in 1994

Yeah, this cartoon isn't actually meant to stand alone. The plot of the episode this short was in is that studio execs are forcing all the characters who normally don't interact to star in each other's segments, and the result is that the show's chemistry is shot to hell.

It was basically a giant fuck-you to the network, which kept insisting on crossovers like this one.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-01-13

I guess that makes sense.

I remember distinctly an episode of this where FDR is on a team of superheroes and Hitler is the supervillain, depicted as the Devil. It was wildly inappropriate.

The show just reeked of "trying too hard". Also slathering on dated pop culture references like 1940s WB did, which only worked then because it was WW2 and historical and you can really only go so far into comedy immortality with an Axl Rose or Woodstock 25 joke.

But they occasionally were cute when they went after neckbeard fans, or just totally lost the plot and went for offensiveness.

This still wouldn't have been any good even with Dot instead of Slappy.

Five stars only because it perfectly showcases why this was a terrible cartoon.

Hooper_X - 2009-01-13

SODARN INSANE.

yes, this is the high caliber of comedy to be found on Animaniacs. Pretty much the best thing to come out of that show was the song with all the countries, 'cause at least that's useful (if now somewhat outdated).

Camonk - 2009-01-13

Yeah the whole idea of parodying traditional cartoons didn't really work out cause the old cartoons were funny. You don't--you don't parody something that's already funny. Still, if not for Animaniacs, we'd not have had Freakazoid.

BHWW - 2009-01-13

This show sucked, for plenty of reasons (pop-cultural humor that was dated within minutes of a show's production, forced, unfunny attempts at metahumor, etc.) but also a lot of it's nerd-fans were the annoying sorts who would for years quote it like nerds do with Monty Python or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or many other TV/film/book titles.

snothouse - 2009-01-13

The incessant singing doesn't help either.

ztc - 2009-01-13

When I was a kid I thought this show was really clever. This clip's sheer, palpable smugness is annoying the balls off me.

I remember the writers always writing themselves into the cartoon, and the producer kept casting his own kids, and the endless self-referencing in-jokes. Despite occasional great moments like the Jerry Lewis clown or The Brain ripping the piss out of Orson Welles, I think Animaniacs was a major studio's largely uninteresting experiment in tonguing out its own arsehole.

eatenmyeyes - 2009-01-16

"The Please Please Please Get a Life Foundation" and "Yes, Always" still hold up well. Not much else comes to mind.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-09-13

This show was and still is terrible.
